Default Why bother to buy a visor clip?

Just wondering why anyone would bother to buy a visor clip for Belscort RD? I have always held mine in a pouch. Now that I have exposed it, I have used the tiny bracket with suction cups that comes with the RD and I think that allows you even more flexibility as far as mounting locations.

Are you all scared that the cups will come loose and the RD will end up on the ground?

That's all I can think of besides people living outside of VA wanting to see their display.

    Thanks

Visor clips let you mount your RD snug against the headliner making it less noticeable. No wires showing, behind the tinted part of the windshield, and very secure.

And no suction cup marks or brackets left on the windshield to tip off a thief that there might be something of value in the car.

I like the visor clip for use in multiple vehicles, plus it keeps the unit out of the heat of the sun, even with the top down.

+1 also others can see a rd on your windsheald thus making you the rabit. In va or dc Leo can't see it. Visor or headliner is the best way

Visor/top of windshield mounts have their downsides - if the windshield has a tinted top, that tint can reduce signal sensitivity. Also, the temperature difference from the roof area down to the dash top can be significant - the high heat of the roof area will only help to degrade component life regardless what the manual says about operating temps.
I.m lucky having a dark blue-gray dash top and with the detector a similar color and with lightly tinted windshield, the detector is almost invisible from the outside. But I do remove it when parked in high theft areas to be safe.

I been driving for about 4 years with my 9500ix inside of the visor holder, mounted high under the roof of my car.
It never gave me any trouble, also i like semi-concealed location against the prying eyes.
It takes however a while to the signal aqausition, after that the gps usually stays on.

Thanks all. I think that I have enough to go on. Anyone know where to get the clips for cheap? 4 clips plus possible shipping adds up especially since I invested in 4 pouches that so far haven't worked out very well as you can see in my other post.

I don't disagree with this, however in my use, the detector has always been at least slightly below the the bottom edge of the tint strip, in all the cars I've ever used it in. In the Jeep it's definitely no issue... no tint strip. (Another possible signal reduction problem would come from a window with some kind of overall metallic IR reducing tint or "insta-clear" type defrosting, but that's for a different discussion.)

I've found the detector heats up MUCH more from sitting in direct sun in the windshield than from being near the roof, even in a soft-top. If the car's parked, it may or may not make as much difference, but I never leave a detector up in a parked car, anyway. I expect it would still be cooler than sitting in direct sun.

My visor clips are all put away areas ago. I usually just mount my detector in front of me now where I can easily see it and no one else can from the back.

but now with the cobra I use i haven't these worries. It has one really outstanding feature of many.

It looks EXACTLY like a gps unit !

I can drive with a cop right on my tail and he would be no smarter for it.
