Communications Tower Source of Radar Signals?
Many years ago while passing a nearby (1/2 mile away) communications tower with loads of antennas on it, my old detector used to go off (can't remember the band) every time I drove up the road and the tower was in sight. This is "cranberry country" - a wide expanse of cranberry bogs with no commercial or private buildings for a mile or more in any direction. This same tower is next to a highway and going down it, the detector also goes off passing within a 1/4 mile. The next time I get in the area I'll note the band the detector is alerting to but for curiosity, what could be radiating from the tower that causes a detector to alarm?
I'm thinking a security motion detector used around the tower site because the tower is in a fairly remote area? I never hear the detector go off going by other comm towers in the region but this one has been triggering my detectors for many years.

Re: Communications Tower Source of Radar Signals?
Cape Cod area? Cell phone towers can set off detectors. Depends on how certain antenna on the tower are aimed and the area around the tower. Cell phone tower have different antenna for broadcasting back and forth between the main cell phone hub. and one is a high freq. Dish I believe..

Re: Communications Tower Source of Radar Signals?
I tried that on both Google Earth and Google Maps but came up empty. The tower when seen from Tahonnet Rd going east and driving over 495, appears about a mile (?) to the northwest, across a large bog area. The tower is east of 495 a few hundred feet and north of Tahonet Rd (connects between 495 and the main road going into Myles Standish from the Sampson Pond area). I tried scanning up along the east of 495 for some distance and could not see this tower or its shadow on the ground or a service road). I'll give it another try and get back to you if I find it.
Found it. The tower is about 100 feet to the east of the northbound lane at the very bottom of the Rocky Gutter Wildlife Management Area. It's service road is off Pine Street 100 feet parallel to the north bound lane of 495 between Middleboro and West Wareham.

Re: Communications Tower Source of Radar Signals?
Seeing its location is not near any houses or "people" spots, I'm guessing the signal is from a motion detector alarm system. Whatever the source, it's constant and been there for years.

well maybe your right. Maybe a motion sensor

Re: Communications Tower Source of Radar Signals?
Well after seeing the surrounding area with the overhead view, I'm now convinced that is what it (the signal) is unless anyone else has any different ideas. Good to know someone else has noticed it. At least it's a good "range test" for the band its on
