Question Should I replace my V1 with a grill mounted RD? Escort or Beltronics?

I'm wondering if there's any benefit if I sold my V1 and went with a grill mounted front and back RD with a Laser Jammer.

I've loved my V1 so far and would hate to give it up, but if going towards a grill mounted RD will add a decent amount of more warning time I'll consider it.

    Which Brand, Escort or Beltronics?

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Thank you!

First of all where in the States, what state you live in? IF it's VA: NO, nothing visible to the naked eye.

IF any of the other 49 states, don't forget about the weather, snow or ice, salt on the roads, any other debris as well plus depends where you park overnight, crooks everywhere, right?

If you don't mind any of the above so you're accepting all the risks of running anything externally especially in bad climate, then maybe some experts (not me, I'm running just my 50/08-built STI Driver) in such grill-mounted RDs will come aboard and share their own opinion and maybe personal experiences, right?

    Drive safely.

I live in New Jersey. We have all the elements of weather.

I'm not too concerned about theft, I don't ever drive in bad areas or leave my car parked in high crime locations.

If this idea isn't feasible, I won't consider. it. I'm wondering if it's worth the performance.

My V1 is mounted to the headliner on the driver side. It's level and seems to be working fine. I personally love having the speed auto mute function that plugs into your diagnostic port.

When you go to Florida, you know there is a state very good for lovers but also full of cops that love watching for our stuff and IF they are able to pinpoint to your car grill...

Been using my STI for 7 years now, mounted and hardwired in the exact way as your V1 is, but on the sun visor. Plus tinted windows all around, except windshield of course.

Don't make the move yet, wait for more replies on your thread.

    Be safe out there.

I wouldn't replace, I would use the v1 in addition to the remote install. I have a remote install and highly recommend it, the STi-R has on par performance with the v1, and mounted outside in addition to the radar antenna's attenuation it won't interfere with each other -- the advantage of the v1 is the arrows, I would not ditch it if possible, I've wanted a v1 for years, but just don't have the cash, the fact that the v1 still holds it value to this day should tell you something, and the fact that remote install STi-R has held it's value since at least 2009 is also telling

You mentioned the STiR and not the Plus version? Any reason why?

I also run the Sti-R no plus and the V1. They work great together. One down side to a low mounted detector is when running with a concrete dividing wall it hurts the range. I have the original Sti-R because I bought mine before the plus came out. They are both great detectors.

I never thought about running both. Sheesh, that's a lot of money! It's even more money to run a LI, STi-R and a V1.

I'm going to start saving. I think I'll need about 3 grand for all these toys installed :P. I suppose when I have enough a new version might be out anyhow.

By the way, I couldn't find the Stir-R non Plus version for sale from any authorized dealers.

Please be kind and enlighten me, your pretty interesting thread has got almost 11K views in less than 2 weeks but only 3 users contributing to it, how is that possible, why the hell ppl enjoy wasting their time reading a freakin' thread when they have ZERO interest in getting into the actual discussion?
Same thing you see in most of the threads, very few ppl replying to ANY question posted in ANY thread, at the beginning of this forum used to be an avalanche of users contributing to ALL new threads, but now... God help us!
