    Default Remote in a vette

I would like to put a remote setup in my car. I was looking at where to mount the radar reciever and if placed in the grill it will be about 13"s off the ground. Anyone else have them placed this low? Has anyone mounted one into some kind of enclosure and placed it inside the car? Seems like line of sight will be suffering a little bit in the grill. Also I was trying to find size measurements of the XR75 head unit and the passport units. Keep in mind that I want it to be stealthy. I am hoping to be able to place the control/head unit in my ashtry were I can fiddle with the various settings. Its a new car guys and I am willing to pay for custom work so what are my options?

I used to run with a 975R. The head unit was stuck in the ash tray so that I could easily get it out of sight. In my first car, the antenna was behind the grille and seemed to do OK. (Probably 2' above the road surface.) In my second car I put it in a small tissue box on the rear deck. I think it worked better in the second configuration because it was higher up and not behind a chrome grille that probably hampered reception.

Where do you do most of your driving? Because, honestly, for your money you get much better protection from a high-end dash-mount unit. Actually, I think that you get better protection period. You can even get nearly as much stealthiness if you mount it right. My V1 is mounted and hard-wired high-up by my rear-view mirror with a remote display in a pod on my dash where I can see it easily. If you're not looking for it you simply can't see it. Parked in a location where I'm worried about security? I slide it off the bracket and take it with me. Furthermore, if you live in a place where Spectre is an issue you might be better off with a dash mount anyway because of the possibility of sticking it in your pocket. I've heard through the board that in some Canadian provinces they can search your car but they can't search you!

That's probably more information than you wanted but I thought I'd give you the whole story as I see it.

If I mirror mount it will only work under the mirror, over it are the nav and on star antennas which block that area. Because the windshield is heavily sloped an undermirror position would block quite a bit of my view through the windshield. Also the visor when up is at an angle that would be effectivly pointing the unit at the top of the windshield frame. If I bring it in the car it would have to go up on the dash to the left of the HUD or in the center, forward of the light sensor and vents located on top of the dash. It could be put behind the vent/sensor in a center mount but that will completly blow the stealth factor. I dont have any legal concerns as far as the stealth thing gos. I just prefer to be low profile and I dont want a half ass looking solution. I would like to do it right. Both in functionality and integration into the car.

Well do what you want with the remote system.

But for the display, look at this thread:

    That is incredibly cool!

Yep, thats gotta be the ultimate display at least insofar as I have seen. I have a PM with him and see how things went from there. Still need some idea of sensor mounting as far as the radar goes, piece of cake on the laser/jammer side of the equation.

I think your best protection would be the V1 mounted HIGH like the kid has in this video of him driving his z06

Yup, I have mine mounted right in that spot with a long cord running to the passenger-side floorboard (there's an auxiliary harness there especially for powering things like this).

'03 Corvette coupe - and lol @ him narrowly missing the cop

proof that having the best radar detector don't mean nothing unless the cop is running radar
