    Default Another silly idea

Is it possible to produce an untinted windshield laminate that could conduct reflect laser? The kind of thing that if you have mounted your RD high, and you get zapped in the lower left hand corner, the zap is spread throughout the windshield laminate, and your RD could pick it up? I think something like this would also improve Lidar detection, since the windscreen is a large area, and two+ tiny bits of reflected lidar would be combined into a single stronger lidar reflection, which the RD would be able to see. Just a thought.

You have to make sure it doesn't reflect back to the LEO too. If this would work, it would basically absorb the laser (from what it sounds like) because it would take the laser and deflect it towards your RD and not back to the LEO. Is this what you were thinking of?

What you're describing is exactly what the horn on the radar detector does to begin with.

Which is great for radar, but does little for laser, which is what he OP was asking for.

Lucite makes a great light pipe, but it's certainly not pratical to try and create laminate for your windshield.

Really, for what you're asking, your best bet would be to build a dedicated laser detector that utilized multiple sensors located at various places on your vehicles. Say a photo resistor at each corner of your windshield, directly under|over|next to your headlights, and one on each side of your LP.

The Laser Jammer forum has a some schematics posted that could probably be adapted to do just this.

Then if you can figure out the wiring input to your RD, you might be able to design a interface that would allow you to trigger your RD's LASER alert (say, like the Beltronics 905 can use a Beltronics RD to alert you to the fact it's sensed LIDAR).
