    Default Microwaves, Myth or Fact?

People say that their microwave sets off their detectors, however, with three different ones that I have had, none got set off by the microwave. I read somewhere that was only a myth.

The way I see it, is perhaps their microwaves suck and they leak!!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone really had theirs go off by a microwave?

I believe that has to do with S band, very very old, back in the day.

I have some radar detectors that will alert when the microwave oven is running. But, those detectors were made to detect S-Band

I certainly wouldn't expect it with modern detectors, since they're not made to detect S-Band.

If you put your detector right up to the door seam of an operating microwave oven, you will get a weak K band alert. Although the microwave oven is operating on S-band, a at 2.4 Ghz, it will have some harmonics at 24 Ghz. I've tried this, and depending on the oven it will cause the detector to alert at anywhere from point blank, to about 1.5 meters. Usually between about 10% to 50% signal strengh on the detector. I was using an ancient Whistler 400, X and K band.

If I had a crappy old detector, i'd hook it up to some batteries and toss it right in the oven. Any volunteers? Make sure you video tape it.

An RMR would be a good testing gaget in the microwave to see if it could jam the waves, I bet it would

Welcome to the board statscan. I had a friend in Detroit toss and old Escort Solo in the microwave and I guess it beeped a few times and then nothing. He took it out and tested it and wouldn't even power up. Mk

I don't see how that happens, are you sure it isn't picking up something else?
