    Default Recommendation

I'm sure all of you know a lot more about radar than me, so I'm hoping you will be able to point me in the right direction.

I need a radar detector that I will be able to count on, but isn't too expensive.

What is the best one for $200 or less?

I'm sure the best quality ones are much more expensive, but all I want to spend on it is $200, so what would the best be for me?

It would have to be one that is easy to take off my dash fast also, nothing permanent (if any are, I don't know).

    Thanks,
    Ryan (Michigan)

    Thanks for the link,

I'm thinking mainly about the Beltronics Vector 895.

It seems to have very good reviews, are there any downsides to it?

Another downside with the Bel V895 is that it is not upgradable as the Bel Pro series, for new radar threats. Roy feels that this should be a major consideration, considering the new Ku threat emerging in the USA in 2006.
    Is that very important?

I would spend about 60 buck more and get the 995 you wont regret it there is a huge difference between the 895 and 995!!!

Dont worry about the upgrade thing we will never have to worry about the Ku band its practically useless here in America where everything is starting to go towards Laser and Ka Band!!!

    Welcome!

I personally wouldn't worry about the upgradability. As far as I know anything about Ku is still just specuation. Also, if Ku does become available, it'll still take some time to get into widespread use. The 895 would be a very good unit. Another possibility, although a little out of the price you posted might be the Bel RX55 at $229. Roy might be able to make you a little better price on it if you were to message him, and you're always best off to deal with Roy when possible, he stands behind the products 100%.

Honestly Ku shouldnt be a threat in the US, for a while (if ever), so dont throw to much consideration into that...

Here is a good link to a recent Vector 895 topic on here.

Just remember whatever RD you choose, use your head, and don't think it will save you from all. There are plenty of smart cops out there. Always have a rabbit (car in front of you) in case they are using instant on radar.

Go with the Brl 895, best detector for your price range.

ya the 895 has the same range as the bel v995 but i also would save a little more and get a vector 995 insttted you have everything a radardetector could have techmode Ku band and mabe a few other things
the v895 is a dam good rd but i think the v995 has it better in the long run
