This thing looks cool. The question I have is, does the "close call" RF capture feature work like I think it does? Does anyone have the 15 or another scanner that has this feature that can fill me in on how well it works? I would hope it will switch automatically when you approach a speed trap............. the possibilities...
"close call" is not the same as the beartracker feature. I don't know exactly what it is but it's something unrelated I'm pretty sure.
I have never gotten the beartracker to work very well.
You're better off setting up your radio to run beartracker alongside CB ch. 19 and listen to the reports from truckers and other drivers. CB ch 19 will usually save you more than a radar detector on the highway.
It's only useful on the highway and it's almost completely useless for city driving.
You have to put the bct-15 in the close call mode, while in this mode this is all it does. When it picks up a strong signal (on my UHF handheld took 1 sec) It displays and monitors that frequency until the signal drops out and then continues on. This mode has many options you can tweak to you needs.
Yes, the BCT8 and BCT15's beartracker will only will alert you of the repeater of the Troopers that are actually being used within a 2-3 mile radius depending on your squelch.
The close call feature picks up ANY signal within a range. Range depending on tons of factors including the obvious to the output power etc of the radio being used.
Just be sure to lock out your CB ch's you will be using if using close call as well, itll suprise ya.
