Default How do you know what CB channel to listen to?

I was wondering if there is a channel that is always used to report LEO speed traps and such or do you have to just listen on a bunch of them and hope you hear something?

    thanks

So everwhere channel 19 has got what i want or is that just in some areas.
    thanks.
also do you think that a CB helps a lot. And even if id doesn't is it fun? I can imagine that talking to the truckers would be awsome!

It is supposed to be the best on the highways because truckers are always out there and will call out bears, you should do the same for them!! And also - chan 19 is widely accepted as the truckers chan. CB won't do much for you in the city.

CB's are useless in they city. They are only good for long highway driving.

Ch. 9 is the official emergency channel
Ch. 19 is the official information channel (this is where you can find bear reports)

I do a lot of highway driving as well as the city, Toronto (same size as Chicago)... I keep my CB on all the time, open road and the city, lots of times you hear truckers asking for city directions, little streets or company locations, when I hear anybody AND I know the answer I'm always happy to help a hard-working driver... also, all the major freeways in Ontario, 401, QEW and the rest of 400-series cross Toronto east-west, north-south, and when you are in the city but close to one of the freeways you can hear a lot of chatter about traffic chaos, crashes, etc., so you can decide for yourself if it's a good idea to jump on that particular freeway or use the city streets and jump on the freeway where the congestion has disipated... CB is GREAT on the open road (but only as an add-on to a very good RD) but sometimes can be useful in the city as well...

Yep it's pretty handy. If you have a crappy antenna though don't expect much in town.

Don't expect much nowhere... better do smothing else with your money, running a CB with a low-performance antenna is just a cheap joke...

Well now i am very worried. Money is not that much of an issue i just can (for many resons, height being one of them) have a large antenna on my SUV. Is there any other option? Is there a decent antenna that isn't going to make my SUV taller or look ugly and swing around well i'm driving.

    thanks
