I have a cheap analog in my room for the local Fire departments but I am coming to find that more and more police departments are going digital...My analog is great for me and it does what i need and isn't too advanced but when i look at my friends digital..it's way too advanced...I thin you should go to radio shack and see what they tell you, you area still might use analog. radio shack is very good with scanners...or at least the place i went

Where do you live? Are they using digital or still on analog? What do you want to use it for, scanning as a hobby, police detection?

Do you know if they are on digital yet? That is the biggest quesiton. If they are on digital, Florida is not 100% digital so you would still get some transmissions.

Looks like Escambia County is on an analog Motorola trunked system.

I'm not sure if the state system in that area is MACOM or Moto. Over here in Daytona the state is still on a digital Moto system, which can be monitored.

The Uniden BC296D (Handheld) and BC796D (Base) are digital scanners, so are the Radioshack Pro-96 (Handheld) and Pro-2096(Base). These support both 3600 and 9600 baud control channels.

There are some older Uniden digital scanners (BC785D, BC250D) that only support the 3600 baud control channels. That's ok, but 9600 baud systems are used in some areas (Michigan for example )
