I'm looking to buy a handheld scanner under $150 that is easy to use and can listen to the police frequencies in My Area.
I had a Uniden BC246T for about 2 weeks, but it was not easy to program.
What do you guys recommend?

looks like all you need is a scanner to scan conventional freqs.. no trunking needed there. I have the RS pro-94 and its excellent for conventional freqs and analog trunked systems. Programming is easy as 1-2-3.
What about the Pro-84? It is on sale right now for $50.
yiou could try it out but to be honest if you had trouble the with bc246t you weill have trouble with other scanners as well I however would by a Radio Shack Pro97 so you can scan the trunked systems in your area as wellOriginally Posted by ES13Raven

I didn't have trouble, but it was not simple.Originally Posted by crazyVOLVOrob

Yeah, most scanners suck when it comes to programing them. I can't get around to really programing mine the way I want it because I know it's going to take forever.
gee, programming is simple. Just take the time to read the manual a little.
to store a channel on lets say the pro-94 all you have to do is press PGM, press channel number you want to store, then press pgm again, then input the freq, then press the "E" button and your done. To scan the bank press scan then select the bank, or banks you want to scan.
Programming trunked systems is a bit more involved but still easy.
Pro97 on sale
Programming cable
Win97 software
Premium subscription to Radio Reference
More than $150 by a little, but you will be able to download the programming for systems directly into your scanner.

I perfer unidens but then again I am very tech savy with that sort of stuff I programed my BC 246t by hand if I were to do it again I would use a Software...Once i got the hang of programming i'd do it no problem.Originally Posted by ES13Raven
My advice would be to try a computer capable scanner and use software to program it

Same here...... crazyVOLVOrob
I learned to program my BC246T by hand as well. I did end up buying the
ARC246T software but I feel it's good to know how to do it manually.
ES13Raven,
If you have trouble understanding scanners, it sounds like using software
is for you. Software programing is MUCH easier.
