I would like to start out by saying I love this site. The enthusiasm for countermeasures and whatnot is fantastic.
I've been reading through the scanner/CB section and just cannot get my head around scanners. Here's my situation.
I've had a V1 for 4 years and its great. I'm looking to expand my arsenal of countermeasures. Scanners are illegal in cars in Indiana. Honestly, I don't care. Maybe this is a bad view and I don't want to come off and as jerk, but I don't think I'd be caught. Maybe this is a naive view, I'm not sure.
So I'm looking at scanners and really like the BearTracker feature on the BCT-15. Unfortunately, this will be hard to install (I don't know where to start) and hard to conceal (under the seat?).
Then I look at the hand held units. These do not have the easy to use BearTracker feature. Here's were I get lost. I can program the police frequencies in the hand held and it will pick up signals. How useful is this for locating police? Will it cover to to long a range unlike the beartracker (3 miles)? Just how do you guys utilize these? The handheld size is ideal, but as silly as this sounds, I'm not sure how to properly and effectively use a scanner.
And I'm assuming I can pick up CB signals on a scanner, which would be most useful as well.
I'm by no means a reckless driver, I just like to go a little quicker when safe and enjoy finding them before they find me. Any insight you can give me would be great. Thanks for reading.
