Which glass mount antenna?

Hello everybody, first post here.

I recently purchased a BEL RX-65 based on the info here, and am moving onto CB radios. I purchased this:

handheld CB on ebay for 27 bucks because initially I did not want to have an external antenna on my car, but I now realize that handheld antenna simply will not cut it.

I am looking into getting one of the smaller cell-phone type antennas to mount on my rear windshield, but there are so many to chose from, I'm not sure what the best performer will be. Any advice? I'm buying the car adapter for that radio I linked to, which lets you use a standard cigarette lighter for power, as well as a coax antenna.

As of right now, a whip style antenna is out of the question, I want to stick to a compact style for the time being.

If nobody has any solid advice on this type of antenna, what are some other good alternatives? Are the 2' fiberglass antennas any good?

Also, what is a good place online to shop for this kind of stuff?

welcome to the board Mr.Roboto I myself am a scanner enthusiast but i don't know JACK about mobile scanning.... try posting in the LOUNGE people often skip over scanner/ham/cb sections.... :arrow: :arrow:

Thanks for the welcome and advice. I ended up ordering the antenna I linked to, I found it for 10 shipped, so I'm just going to give that a try for now to see how it works. I'll likely get something bigger and better eventually though, as I'm not expecting much from this.

Never had much luck with any through glass antennas but would only be choice of last resort. Hope it works out for you. Avoid any defroster or antenna lines in the glass upon installation.

Any glass mount antenna is a bad antenna!!!! The reception is so so so bad it's not worth it!

Thanks for the advice. Like I said, this is just going to be a starting point for me. I only got it because it was so cheap for me to add onto another order I was placing at the time.

I'm also looking at those fiberglass tunable antennas as well, as seen here:

This would be an ideal setup for me if it works well, because I can easily put it up and take it down. Do any of you have any experience with this type of antenna? I think it's alot better looking that a big steel whip since it comes in black, and won't be flopping around all over the HW.
