    Default Ham Radio License?

I am new to the board, and have been really impressed with the information that is found on the site. I noticed that some of you use scanners as a counter measure, and it got me thinking. I see some states have made it illegal for you to use scanners with one of exceptions sometimes being that you are a licensed ham radio operator.

Just curious who else has a license?

    Default Ham License

Here in MI, you can get a license to have a scanner in your vehicle ... you don't need your ham ticket to get an exemption. I'm thinking of getting mine anyway, for other reasons.

The day they drop the morse code requirement, I'll start to study again.

There's a chance that may happen in a year or so.

And before anyone posts that 5 wpm is not difficult, it's the principal of the matter that makes me wait. I think MC is antiquated.

    Default Morse Code

You don't need to demonstrate morse code ability to get your Technician Class license ... that's all you'd need to get your call letters and cover having a scanner in your car.

I've been thinking of starting with a regular CB just for kicks, but who knows. There's something to be said for proficiency in "old school" technology.
