Just wondering how some of you have mounted your hand held scanners in your car WITH the antennas on them, not a roof top antenna mount?
Thanks in advance.

Why did you buy a scanner when you don't intend to use a professional (roof or trunk mounted) antenna? Have you ever seen police cars with no antennas on their roof and/or trunk? Never
is that really necessary? I was thinking about buying a handheld scanner, would the range be adequate?
You need an OUTSIDE antenna, on the roof or on the trunk of your car in order to get maximum performance out of your scanner, same for the CB Radio... the ducky antenna for scanner and CB is good when walking in a park or whatever, but for driving only a professional antenna will give you the maximum range possible!
And now one of the best scanner antennas:

I've had the scanner for 2.5 years, it works fine without the rooftop antenna; I have one of those and don't care to use it anymore.
Original question was: how have people mounted their hand held scanners in their cars? Just looking for some ideas.
Thank you.
You can mounted anywhere you want, where is more convenient to you, for instance my handheld CB Radio is right by the driver's seat where you click the seat belt and I'm using a cell phone holder bought for about $10 at Wal-Mart...Originally Posted by cjs180
And bellow is very practical set-up for a scanner, hopefully Erik is not gonna get angry for using him as a perfect example of a very neat and professionally install:
