Hard to say if the "Highway Patrol Alert" does any good in your state without actually trying it. The BCT-8 is the size of a regular sized CB or base scanner (1-DIN). If space is an issue, maybe the older BCT-12 would still work in your state, if they have't switched radio systems recently. The BCT-12 is detector-sized, but they last made it in the late 90's so the freqs for some states are outdated. It still works in some states though (Ohio)...

If you have any questions on it shoot me a PM. I have owned mine for a couple of months and pretty much mastered it 8)

It is the same size as a radio head unit.

state troopers either already have, or will be soon migrating to digital trunking systems. whether or not that makes a difference to the BCT-8's highway patrol alert, i dont know.

also, i see many local systems in larger towns moving over.

Yeah my city, county, and state are all APCO25 digital 9600 baud.
The BCT-8 has some kind of special scan mode for the Highway Patrol alert for some of the states that are statewide digital. I don't know what technique they are using though, and I haven't tried it either...

I just got mine last week, it word it beeb hard.

Hi jimbonzzz, need help on BCT8. i set the scaner to scan on the Hwy patrol of my state. if you still have the manual for it. open on page 15, do you see the Topic called "Setting The Squelch".

Q: if you driving in the Hwy, how much do I need to turn the Sqyekcg to catch the cop?
Is it halfway, it will show on the screen it "Scaning" and pick one signel, and scan again, and it keep on?

I use mine to its max when not in the city. Turn it clock wise, it should static. Now turn in counter clock wise, as soon as it stops with the static leave it there.

When in the city you might get some unwanted static etc....set the squelch a little higher.

I was driving in hw doing, my BCT 8 Alert show no HP in the area.

Suddenly, my Bel Rx65 alerted my to "Lasser" is being shot in the area.

Why the BCT did not alert my of the HP in the area?

It will only alert you when an extender or repeater is being used.
