The antenna is one of the main components....I would probably get a permenant mounted one so it would stay tuned. Tuning it is a must when you first install it.

Well the plan right now is to get a cheap CB with a cheap antenna then get like a wilson 5000 and tune the CB for chritmas. I need a magnetic antenna i don't need a CB on my car 24/7

I think i found a place where i might order from online they sell their CB's tuned and peaked from the get go the question is will need a power ful antenna to go along with it

I might go with the Uniden pro 520xl for $73

Forget about the thru the glass models, they lose gain. I like the hustler 144/440 magnetic mount antennas.

How are those wire antennas like the ones that come with the BCT-8.

Not familiar with the BCT-8 antenna. Do you mean wire antennas where you cut it to length and string it up? I think they sell those at RS as a kit with connector already attached. Unfortunately, I believe a main problem is that they're very narrowband, although it's a neat idea for a stealthy install such as around the rear window.

I've used those before. Not really too bad, if stealth is your main concern (like it is mine). Tapping into my vehicle AM/FM antenna seems to be slightly better than the BCT-8 wire antenna.
