    Default Roof mount

Okay, I have a real complex about getting something even as small as a lil wil. My car has the analog Onstar that GM stopped supporting at the end of the year. As a result, I have a useless shark fin at the rear of the roof. Anyone think I could mount something a tad smaller there and get halfway acceptable range????

About the ONLY really small and halfway decent looking and performing CB antenna out there is the Firestik DS14.

    DS-14 Designer Antenna

Looks just like an old cellphone antenna. And, since it's mounted in a hole in sheet metal, it should perform decently. Not as good as a Lil Wil, but probably better than a lot of the cheap arse antennae out there. Hole mounted ground plane makes a big difference. I would expect it to perform about as well as you need it simply for listening for trucker-smokey reports in the immediate area, but don't expect any long distance chats with it.

Hmmm, I like that one but I can only find it in the NG (no ground plane) version.

Dang! You're right! Everybody shows it "out of stock", if at all. I wonder if it has been discontinued. If so, that's a damn shame, because it was the only good looking CB antenna on the market. I dunno, I guess most CB whackers want to look like CB whackers, lol.

I believe that the FG version would still work fine on a metal groundplane. In fact, it should work better. But I'll ask around before I say that for sure.

Well, crap. I just read this:

    Do I need a no-ground-plane antenna?

Doesn't sound promising. I would be roof mounting it. Think that will help???

I bought a cheap SWR meter, too, to help tune....
