But you have a 9500.....aren't they "quiet?" CB isn't that bad. Just keep it squelched and the voume low. The antenna is the REAL sticking point. My wife just spotted my antenna (that's been on since Thursday). SHe told me she will no longer ride anywhere in my car.

yep, antenna = ugly , that's the biggest reason.

A Wilson Little Wil is the minimum antenna you want-trust me, I found out the hard way-and it's 3 ft. But spray painted flat black it's not too, too noticeable.....

Want something that will trounce your 9500CI by miles (at 1/16th the price)... and give you more info then the V1 and 9500ci combined: Get a CB...

As I said, regardless of how good your RD/Jammers are, if you drive highway/interstate, you are not fully covered without a CB (its the most cost effective countermeasure: period).

On an 'average busy' day on the highway (Including: commuter traffic, commercial traffic, and LEO 'traffic') I bet a $100 CB set-up spots an instant-on trap (3/5 times) before your RD's, and I will spot your RD's 3miles on all alerts.

*It is important to note: A CB is a 'tool', just like any other countermeasure, its NOT foolproof/100% effective.

Its also more effective under certain circumstances (IE: More trucks driving, daytime), and it will not always 'tell-you' where EVERY bear is (IE: You may not have been in range last time it was said, or didn't hear it, or it just hasn't been called out... etc.), but to ride without it, is to have a true gap in your countermeasures.*

I myself have drove-up onto a NYST (With all my countermeasures, including CB) and didn't know he was there until my rabbit crested the hill in-front of me, slammed on her brakes and moved into the right lane... (A cute chick in a Scion tc). Luckily (for her) he was just filling out paper work from his last victim... they are good folks.

I can't resist chiming in here. I cannot agree with you all more that the CB radio is the most overlooked, underrated, cost-effective counter-measure out there. I get made fun out of for my Wilson 1000 trunk lip mount by some of my friends who think CB is outdated, useless, and incoherent. I still cannot WAIT for the day where we take a road trip with 2 vehicles and I am able to call them on the cell phone and let them know there is a cop ahead about 20 miles in advance. The moment will truly be priceless and honestly, I can GUARANTEE that it will happen. I have taken several thousand mile trips and very RARELY will I spot an LEO whom I did not know his where-abouts ahead of time. I've said it before and I stand by what I said: If I had to choose between the CB or the RD, the RD will stay at home ANYDAY.

what really amazes me is the lack of respect by those who use a cb. you will spend literally thousands of dollars on your RD and Jammers but wont spend 200 for a nicer cb setup. a cheap cb even with the little wil wont match a 200.0 setup with a P&T'd 29 and wilson 1000. if the 62" whip bothers you - buy the mag mount 1000 and unscrew it when not on the road. it takes like 5 seconds to take it down or get you the short whip and go on. some people really amaze me.
my system is extremely quiet and really gets out there.

I was doing my setup on the cheap for fun. I'm not gonna buy a 62 inch whip if I don't need it to put on the trunk of a sedan. My Little Wil gets out far enough for me to know what's going on. If I get a truck in the future where there's more room for a better install and the antenna won't look so goofy, you can bet I'll get a nicer setup and get it P&T'd right out of the box from Clay's or Rolling Radios or someone like that with at least a Wilson 5k. You're right, CB's are so dang cheap. For $200, you can get a lot of CB.

I will by all means concede that CB antennas are not s#xy to any extent, and for the most part: Many are downright ugly!

I look at it like this though DJ: All my friends say the exact same thing "It looks funny", "You have a matchbox car...", "they look ret@rded", "I would be embarrassed to drive with that on the highway" etc. In response I say: "Well you know what looks even funnier, more ret@rded, and much more embarrassing? When you have an officer who pulls you over with his lights and siren blaring, and people you just 'passed' 'stare' as they go by, and sometimes wave."

That is normally the end of that conversation... so you can decide DJ: What is more embarrassing, to have a 3Foot antenna on your trunk-lid or to have an officer light you up like a Christmas-tree and watch people drive by-and wave.

DJ: Listen we are all here for the same reason: Effective countermeasures, and love of the hobby... I'm not trying to steer you wrong here mate, nor is anyone else. The 'price' you pay in style/money, is worth the benefit of having a CB. Just trying to help you see the light!

As I said: I'd be willing to bet that a $100CB set-up out performs your RD/Jammer combo on a interstate-trip (on a busy day with the aforementioned traffic) 3/5 times, and I would spot your RD's 3Miles on all alerts... thats how effective a $100Countermeasure is.

A suggestion here: Why don't you buy a cheap P&T CB, and a Lil' Wil ($75Combined)... hook it up and try it out? I mean lets face it, you bought a $1,600 RD (Not to mention countless more dollars spent on other RD's/Jammers)... why not give the CB a shot for a few weeks on a couple thruway/highway/interstate trips? If you don't like it: pawn it off on ebay or give it to a friend or something of that nature.

On a good conditions weekday, a CB is just about the same as always having a rabbit 5 mile rabbit (in front and behind) that talks to you! Won't do another road trip without one. And it's not *just* a countermeasure, there's also entertainment value, safety and traffic warnings and should you be where the highway patrol still monitors CH9 there's even a means to call for help if something happens where there is no cell signal coverage.

Even special mention of CBs here:
