Default For those who have an Iphone try this for a scanner.

I have been using the mobile link from this site as my scanner in the car. Works pretty darn well. Might also be an option for those of you where a scanner is not permitted in a car.

I am using WunderRadio on the Iphone to receive the broadcasts. Works great here in the atlanta area.

Bunch of places, in varying degrees, places to pay extra attention....

NY, MN, IN, KY, FL and more...
<edit> make sure you check your local laws

In florida its only illegal if its "Installed" in the car. Install means physically powered by the car. So if you don't have your iphone plugged in then its not against the law.

You can do a search on this and verify it. I believe I citied it in the Florida recently.
They actually defined what the law ment. That is what it said.

Correct, if you follow the link the details are there, however FL has a law about it. I put the link in instead of quoting gobs of text I knew have already been posted.

yes you have to download an application on your phone, depending on what phone you use. I use WunderRadio myself.

I thought at one point that that AFN link wasn't allowed, nor was anything on that domain.

    Is this still active?

It boggles my mind that scanning could ever be illegal. They are beaming those signals through your head, you have a basic right to receive them. Even every piece of electronics must conform via FCC to "receive external interference." That's exactly what a scanner does.

Sadly it looks like there are no iphone-compatible streams for the boston area. Haven't had the money for a digital scanner, but but this would be a nice solution.

Well I edited mine, if there's going to be a *rule* about something like that put in place a forum announcement or sticky telling us so would be nice, as I read the first half a page or so of that thread but didn't feel the need to keep checking on it. For something that's as un-updated (site looked like it'd hadn't been touched in about 2 years) and far off topic from RDs (yes it has a tiny blurb page about RDs) I certainly didn't think it'd be in anywhere near competing with RD.net

And the FCC says you have the basic right to receive any signal, so long as you aren't deciding "encrypted" signals. I am actually all for "illegal in the furtherance of a crime" laws though.

I hear you Motor, its just a small think really. When it came up, I just thought I would throw it out there because, as you said, not everybody reads EVERY thread, so you can't hold it against anybody.

I don't know why the restriction, but I'm sure the Professor will be satisfied with the edited post.

Yeah, it should probably be in the rules, and they should tell you when you sign up, but you see how often that is updated...(Don't they still say visit the Introduction forum?)
