I was hoping to get some sort of a CB setup installed on my truck. I know next to nothing about CB's at the moment, but I'm trying to learn and this website is great. I have a pretty good idea what I would like. It's for a 2007 Toyota Tacoma, a small base model, single cab, 2WD truck. My rear glass is solid with no sliding window.
CB: I was looking for something real small. The cab of the truck is small, and its got a bench seat. Also, id MUCH prefer something hidden and out-of-the-way. While browsing over CB's on the net (not really knowing what im looking at), I came across the Cobra C 75 WX ST. Is this is good model to be looking at? Or is there something similar you would recommend? The idea that I can mount the "guts" to this uder the dash and out of site really captures my interest.
Antenna: My truck has a tonno cover on it, and its got to stay. And I wanted something small, and discreet if possible. I was looking over the various kinds of antennas and the only one that seems to make sense for me is a 2' black one on my rear bumper, offset to the side i suppose. The hood/fender clamp style just looks like a bad idea, Im not going to drill holes, and my rear window does not slide. Is there such a thing as a CB antenna that just screws on to the OEM radio antenna mount? Can the OEM radio antenna itself be used? What would you get if you were in my shoes?
I've read that hardwiring these to the fuse box is a good idea? If so, what sort of slot do I look for? And would I need to pick up special electrical fittings etc for proper fit? I also have a radar detector in the mail i will be trying to hardwire as well.
Thanks in advance for any help!
