I just installed my CB today - Cobra 19 DX IV with a Wilson Little Wil Antenna. I placed the SWR meter between the radio and antenna and did some testing. The SWR meter instructions had me place the meter to FWD mode, key the mic, and use the adjustment knob to get the meter to read SET. Then I switched to REF mode and keyed the mic. I had the antenna mounted on the rear trunklid in the center of the trunk. Channel 1 had an SWR of 1 - it looked like the needle didn't even move. However, when I went to 40 it shot up to 1.5 as soon as I pressed the talk button and steadily kept increasing to 2.0 and would have kept going had I not released the button. According to the Little Wil instructions I should shorten the whip 1/4 inch and check again. Is there anything I'm missing here, or is it normal to have channel 1 have an SWR that is so low and channel 40 to have an SWR that is so high?
