I went to frys electronics yesterday and saw loads of CBs and Scanner. What is the differnce between these. Which is good for hearing police like Alex roy did when a women called in and gave a description of his vehicle.

roy has both.. but listening in to the police calls was done with scanner.. cb's people use to talk back and forth with each other. vs a scanner you program frequencys and listen to that.
i think its better to get cb first.. cheap and easy.. scanners can add up to big money

Scanners are better in urban environments. You can hear locations of accidents before they hit the radio and road hazards as well and occasionally a speedtrap. (in Houston a scanner is becoming indispensible for finding speedtraps if only for the rolling variety)
If you roll on the highways then a CB is the only way to go.

well i want to hear speed traps, like finding out where a leo is. ANd on scanner do leo talk to each other and say where they are at shooting lidar or radar
x2 the only reason a scanner was worth it for him was he was drawing attention to himself by his high speeds constant 100+ and weaving....You shouldn't do that
CB radio is a far better stealth investment trust me I am know
Exactly I have never had any cop reveal their location unless they already has someone pulled over. It is still extremely rare
Spoiler: show
In Houston where they operate these rolling speed traps the scanner does allow me to hear them reference cross streets and the freeways their working on. But this is a pretty exclusive system here in Houston.
If I run my CB in the city it's all Spanish. I have to get out past Sealy before I hear any English on the CB.

No you have to listen and put together the fact that they are stopping lot's of people in the same location to figure out where they might be running laser or radar.
Also in my circumstance they went to an encrypted digital system so you can't listen in any more. If I had bought a scanner I would have a couple hundred dollar paperweight.
Try scanamerica.us and see if your local PD is listed there. If so you can listen in on the web or on a web enabled phone like I was doing with my iPhone, before you sink a few hundred dollars into a scanner.

ROFL! No wonder your Spanish is so good!
Yeah, that vid clip is totally overrated, misleading, and misunderstood. Think about it. It gave Roy no information he didn't already know. Cops are looking for him? No shyte! They are always looking for him! That just comes with the territory when you drive like a maniacal dickhead. He already knew that. It didn't tell him where the cops were. He had to find them by doing what he and his co-driver are always doing anyhow, which is to use their eyes to scan the road ahead. The would have seen the cops even without the radio alert. So really, that was certainly not a "save" in any respect. And as freaked out as he was over it, you can tell that is definitely not something he hears often. Probably never even heard it before. Even if you are a hardcore, experienced and technologically knowledgeable, full-time scannist, you will probably listen for ten years without ever hearing a single thing that is relevant to you as a countermeasure. If you lack any of the above characteristics, you will go a lifetime without ever hearing it.
You'll hear a lot of cool stuff. You *might* even understand some of it. But it won't be anything that will save you from a ticket. The best you can really expect is to hear them running your driver licence while they write you the ticket. Big thrill. Not exactly worth the money you spent on the scanner. And most people who buy them just get sick of all the noise and sell them within a few months. At a loss.
