    Default Short CB antennas

What kind of performance can you expect from a short (like less than 2') antenna? Also where is a good place to find one of these?

I'm looking to put a semi-permanent CB setup in my car. I was thinking I'd get two antennas. One short one to leave on the car almost all the time, and maybe a Little Wil when I'm on long trips or for some other reason need better performance. Is this worth doing or should I just stick with one long antenna and put up with the length?

My car is an '02 Monte Carlo and I plan on mounting the antenna in the middle of the trunk.

I went through the same thing. I started with the glass mount which reached maybe a mile on a good day. Then I got the little wil and love it. The antenna is the key to any CB. My advice is get a good one to start with.

There is a video of an R8 on youtube that has dual CB antennas comming up through the rear slot vents on either side of the back window. I assume it is attached to the chassis and has a decent electrical length to it. It only stick about a foot above the window.

I cannot provide a link b/c its blocked at work...

I would never consider a glass mount antenna, but would a one or two foot antenna really be that terrible assuming I'd only want to talk to nearby drivers?

Do what you want. I will be willing to bet that in the very near future you will replace the "short" antenna with one that works, so why not save yourself a few bucks and get a good one to start with. Remember, in a mans world nothing short is acceptable!

    x2.

There is one "short" (as in less than 52 inches) antenna that might be worth a try.

    Cobra HGA1000 CB Antenna

I have no experience with it, but it is cheap and worth a try if you are Hell-bent on a short antenna. No matter how bad it is, I can assure you it will be a hundred times better than any glass mount antenna, which BTW are all 3 feet long.

I'm hesitant to go with that Cobra antenna since it got some not-so-great reviews on amazon. If I can't find a high quality short antenna setup I may just have to deal with only using the Little Wil.

The Wilson Lil Wil is the only "short CB antenna" you should have on your mind. Its only 36" or 3'

I have tried these cheap short antenna's and got NO performance out of my radio.....Honestly with these shorter antenna's are a waste of money the key to a good CB radio use is the antenna. Spend more money on the antenna and you will be much better off

Maybe I would be better off getting two short co-phased antennas?
