Default Mag mount not cutting it for daily use

I can't stand the wire getting in the way, the rubber coating on the coax wearing thin, constant worry about scratches, etc.

I've got a hatchback with a big sunroof, and drilling holes is not an option. What are my options in the 3ft range for some sort of antenna setup?

I'm willing to replace the radio antenna as the FM is built into my window and I never listen to AM (note not an adapter but put in a dummy base seal it all up and just have it be a 3ft removable/adjustable whip instead of the radio wiring.

I was much happier with my thru-glass from radio shack, but it made lots of wind noise on the highway, or I'd have already gone that route again.

I'm willing to see options that I need to adapt. But unfortunately for stealth purposes I can't post my vehicle. (and that should say where stealth and possibility of looking factory and blending in on my priority list)

I'm just running a lil 4wat stock CB, 5-10 miles reception on an average day (20+ on good terrain and atmosphere), and being able to give a heads up to a truck that's in line of sight is all I'm looking for range wise.

I hear ya. I am in the same boat as you.

Right now I am looking at getting a Wilson 1000 trunk lip mount antenna.

I noticed my Wilson mag mount started to loose it's magnetism. It used to blow off at 150 mph now it blows down at 130

    check out this thread.:

i replaced my factory antenna and added a new internal radio antenna, and it works great and no one even notices that it is a CB antenna. sounds like exactly what you are looking for.

Erick, I hope it falling off at 130 doesn't slow you down at all!

It does more than slow me down. I have to stop and re-stick it. So now I keep in my trunk and save it for the interstate.

Where do you go that fast that's not the interstate?

The Beltway and 225, plus a little on I-10. If I go 150 mph on the interstate I will run out of gas before I hit the next town. Sheila doesn't get good gas mileage much over 110. Maybe 10-13 mpg, so I will stay between 90-110 for long trips if traffic will allow.

The Beltway is an awesome road especially the North Hardy Toll road on the way to the airport. I will usually hit 130 or 150 everytime I go to the airport lending credence to the old adage, driving to airport is the most dangerous part of your trip.
