So I was driving along a nice country road the other day when this HUGE BIRD just emerged from the right shoulder and tried to fly over my car. It didn't work out for him though. First he left some nice bird guts on the top of my windshield. Then he caught my Wilson 1000 and must have gotten sliced open because I found more bird guts on my rear window. The 1000 holds on at 122 MPH but it didn't hold on for this. It left a little scratch on my roof and a nice 1/2" dent with a gash in the paint on the rear corner of the trunk lid.
The little vinyl pad on the bottom of the magnet mount had a tiny hole in it that I put electrical tape over, and the top of the whip is bent for about a foot. It still works, however, but now I have it on the trunk. I didn't want to put it on the trunk before because it would bang against the roof when I opened the trunk, but I used some nuts and bolts to make bigger "stops" for the hinge assemblies so the trunk doesn't go up so far. It still bangs if I open it real quick, but at least it doesn't lay down and scraaaatch the roof now.
If only I had thought of that before.
