    Default Power Mike Suggestion

I recently dug out my Uniden PC122 from 1987 out of my electronics drawer. I used it on a recent roadtrip and it seemed to work OK, but the stock mike probably should be replaced. Any suggestions from the group?

Power mics are big bang for the buck these days. The top three choices are the SkyThumper ST-65DX, the Astatic 636-L, and the Astatic D104M6. The first two are noise-cancelling, doing a good job of cutting back on some of the road noise in a truck or loud car, making you easier to understand. Your car doesn't even have to be loud with a power mic, because they pick up every little noise. The D104M6 isn't noise cancelling, but doesn't sound bad at all in a quiet car, and can be a little cleaner sounding because of the lack of noise cancelling. The SkyThumper seems to be the favourite today, with a mix of power, clarity, and quietness that seems to be a good medium. That'd be my personal choice. I believe that's what srtga recently got too.

Thanks for the feedback SS....I'll review and put the mike as well as a better antenna on my b'day wish list. Father's day brought me the V1 and the Laser Interceptor. Maybe I should put some rear heads for the LI on the christmas list. Countermeasures are fun!!

I got the ST-65DX with my Sparky custom Cobra 25 CB and love the mic. Very clear and clean plus the noise canceling is great because you don't have to worry about the mic amplifying every little noise in your vehicle. Best mic I think you can buy unless you want something with echo and all those other toys.

I have a Skythumper and it's a super mic. It sounds good (I've listened to my own radio through a friends CB) it's built like a tank and it's one of the cheaper aftermarket mics.

It's not technically a power mic. I believe it's a "high gain" mic. so you don't have to fool with batteries.

Here are some interesting videos showing the audio clarity difference. I like the way it sounds.

I've read some reviews on it and it sounds like a pretty cool mic. I'm sure you've seen the online CBmagazine review.

I almost got one but decided on an echo board instead.

I would rather spend the big money on Top Gun Modulator and Speech compressor than a echo board
