Default How does a scanner save you when the LEOs are digital?

If the local LEOs are running digital radio, how does a scanner help since you can't listen in?

That's what I thought. Since so many are going digital, it seems to be diminishing returns to get a scanner.

as long as they don't use encryption you can still hear them, you just need a digital trunking scanner. Digital Scanners but they expensive so be prepared to pay.

Wow... that is expensive! I'll stick with a CB, and buy a 2nd jammer if I want to drop another $500! (Currently have an M47)

They are digital encrypted here in Gwinnett. I used to listen to them on my iPhone until they went digital.

I'd want to listen Gwinnett, Dekalb, Rockdale and Walton LEOs, plus the cities within. Is there a list somewhere which shows what they use, so I can determine if this is a dead-end road for me?

yeah right here Scanner Frequencies if you see 8**.*** and above they are digital, if you see 15*.*** or 4**.*** they are still analog. It also says at the top, conventional or trunked.

You can also listen online at RadioReference.com - Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

There are several apps where you can use this site with some of the smart phones to listen in while you are in the car. This is what I used on my iphone before Gwinnett went dark.

I was using the iphone in this video.
