Default Tucson AZ - Cops Chase Speeder thru RLC for ID

I am sitting here listening to a couple of scanners and Air is directing the ground units on how to get the bad guy through the RLC so they can get Photos of the bad guy.

They are currently monitoring via Air his movements. They think he is either involved in Car Jack or Strong Arm Robbery. There are no lighted units on the bad guy.

In case you are local it is Tucson PD South 00:53 Sunday

I bet you're getting a good laugh. Sounds interesting.

I'm listening to the scanner now and a guy just got booked for 83 in a 25 at 1 am. I got part of the audio recorded.

Edit: reply to your post- I've also heard "the bird" called off due to fog.

This is the first time I have EVER heard this...

Ground Commander has given the call off to AIR because they say that it is apparent that the bad guy knows that Air is following.

If you were AIR would you stop watching? Hell No.

They have FLIR here so they can follow from a distance.
After listening for 15 minutes the information just made it to AZ DPS.

I would swear it was April Fools Night if I didn't know better.

Now the AIR unit is called off to another scene.

I have heard of Air calling themselves off because the could not keep up with the MC they were chasing at 160+MPH but I have never heard ground call them off because the bad guy knew they were there.

    Now you know...

It was entertaining for a few moments and then...

I am not sure I understand your question.

Air Unit will hang close to the ground. But they will also stay as far as a few miles when doing surveillance.

When I was a kid I would go out looking for Cops to chase me because I thought I was invincible (I was but I joined the military by the time the investigation made it to me @ my Mom's and Dad's house, they gave up - so did I ).

I would run until I could blend in or there were no more lights and I could hide.

Now, these guys will run just for the hell of it, even after the ground units give up.

I just don't understand why they gave up.

I did hear of a lengthy conversation between the Force Commander and the Pilot about the location of the camera that got the photo.

    SAY CHEESE!!!

I don't see where the ground units gave up, or if they were involved...

The ground units were involved as some points but this guy was moving too fast. They were able to keep him on a path through the RLC via closing off the side streets and moving him towards the Interstate 19.

Once he got on the Interstate he was all over the place. He moved up to I10 and then back to I19. He had them running circles trying to call out places to meet up.

Then they called off the ground units and just wanted AIR to watch where he was going to. But he never did slow down. That is when Ground said that the bad guy must have known Air was there. It was then that AIR was called off. The Air Pilot was right with the bad guy when she was called off.

    Weird.

There is no way to know for sure without actually catching the car. That is odd how they called off the pursuit.
