    Default LEOs with CBs

I've posted about seeing Richmond Co. SO (Augusta Ga) cruisers with CB antennas and the other day I asked an officer about it.

He was picking up a patient from my clinic and I just asked him if they use them much. He said that it depends on the officer and that sometimes if several cars are together then it's a quick way to talk.

He also said that he's used it to tell truckers that he's coming through when he's on a call. He also said that he got a kick out of the bear reports

Anyway, he was running a Uniden 520 with a Wilson 1000. I noticed it was on CH 19...

The other reason might be that when they talk on there Police Radios that is all recorded. We use to use a feature that is called "talk around " on are police radios. This would only go a few blocks..The advantage was the dispatcher could not hear you, which meant it was not being recorded.

I'm amazed at how many officers ar eon the road without them. I do notice them more on Trooper's cars than Sheriff Deputies, but for how much the deputies work the highway around here it just doesn't make sense not to have one. I've many times heard them used to catch hit and run and DUIs.

If you are dead-set on wanting to speed, a good CB radio will do more for you than any type of radar detector. Tune into Channel 19 and you will be given "bear warnings" until your ears fall off.

It is very easy to have another car swoop in behind them while they are watching my direction.
    Ehhem

    What was that officer?

    I don't think so...
