Angry BAD NEWS! St. Louis City Listeners

I have some bad news for St. Louis City Police listeners.....
It has been said that this year "ALL POLICE COMMUNICATIONS" will be encrypted this year. The exact date was not noted.

I just got the $*$((@$ system working on Monday and now I see this bull crap. Unf-ing believable. I can't imagine one of these thugs having the financial means and know how to program a radio to listen to them so its the only people they are hurting are the hobbyist. I'm just starting to get use to the nightly air support and hourly robberies.
You just knew this thread would get me going.
    Spoiler: show

Thumbs down Re: BAD NEWS! St. Louis City Listeners

Yes I did. I knew it would set you off as it did me. I have listened to scanners for over a decade now and can tell you this will only be the 4th encryption around Missouri that I have heard.

Forgot the city but around Springfield, MO, Sikeston, MO, Kirkwood, MO, and Alton, IL. Now St. Louis City.

There will still be great listening opportunities out there. Just because people have went digital does not mean that the likely-hood of them going encrypted is not increased. Any department can go encrypted with the right radios and software digital system or not. However it may be easier to transform into an encrypted system the way I understand it.

Now if you like to listen to STL City, which I would love to but can't due to distance, it really makes no difference to me, however the loss of ability is what sucks. We will lose out on everything from major events, traffic details, and even the drug busts, pursuits, shootings ect.

The other way it will hurt us , the news media will not be able to hear and rush to the scene as quick , which will totally blow. Our news will become more and more lame.

Angry Re: BAD NEWS! St. Louis City Listeners

I guess breaking news will be a thing of the past one day.

I'm listening to the City now and the crime is simply unbelievable. Continuous stealing, warrants, stolen vehicles, large amount of suicides, shots fired and the new word "flourishing." Just heard another robbery.

Yesterday, I listened the a stolen vehicle operation. One officer parked his car sideways to form a traffic jam of innocent vehicles so the stolen car couldn't go anywhere. Sounds like they really cared about safety of the general public.

It really makes you wonder when you hear the dispatcher asking for any cars in service because she is holding an assault in progress and she has no available cars.

I'm about 80% City listening and 20% St. Charles County at the moment. Ofallon better not be next.

Edit: Another thing you hear down here are prostitutes.

Welcome to the New Millennium. All Orange County public service agencies went encrypted digital a decade ago...

If you're a "legitimate" news organization, you'll probably be allowed to use monitoring equipment. It's Joe Average Citizen they want to lock out so that we can't hear them using racial slurs to describe us.

I'm in Midtown when I'm downtown. I start picking up bits and pieces of the city around 94 & 40. When I'm in St. Charles Co I'm either in North Ofallon or Lsl near the blvd where I can't pick up squat.
