    Default antenna question?!?!?!?!?!?!

Ok, first off, I wanna say that this is probably a very stupid question, and secondly it might not belong in here but I didnt know anywhere else to put it. So thanks for anyone who will give me informative replys!!!!!

Onto the question.... while I've been looking for scanner antennas and cb antennas, I've seen cellular antennas. After getting very aggravated with my cell phone not having very good signal and connection, I got to thinking. Would any of those "automotive" cellular antennas work on my house? I was thinking of putting one like outside my window or something. Any of you think it would or could work? I was thinking of getting like the magnet mount and putting a piece of metal on my roof and attaching it to that and running the coax cable down the side and drilling a hole in the bricks or something, or maybe though my window by cracking it open and sliding it through there. I dont know, I'm thinking crazy. I just wanna talk to my girlfriend on my cell phone without asking her "what" every minute. Anyone have any suggestions? That would be wonderful!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, the window-mounted cel phone antennas should work fine in a house (as long as there is no metal screen in the way). Keep in mind that some of the higher gain versions are somewhat directional (might need to be aimed towards the nearest cel tower).

As for the magnetic or other trunk or roof mount antennas, they generally would NOT work in a home without a substantial ground plane (that is, they're designed to make use of a car's metal roof or trunk lid).

Last year I bought my Motorola i730, retail price almost C$500, tax included, but I signed a THREE year contract so they gave me C$300 off the sticker price (C$100/year up to max. of 3 years)... in my case, being in transportation, two-way radio is a must, I have no alternative of changing cell companies, Telus is the only one with 2-way radio network in Canada, same like Nextel in US... so far so good...

Just ran across this Cel phone Yagi from Wilson Cellular. If you're using 800/900 (as opposed to 1800/1900MHz, this looks quite useful: http://www.wilsonelectronics.com/antennas/wcyagi.htm
