    Default Scanner recommendation

Can anyone recommend a good scanner? I hear everything will be digital soon. If so, how soon, and will a Radio Shack Pro 97 do me good or will I be wasting my money. Any help greatly appreciated.

If you stay put and your state isn't digital, then go for the Pro-97. The tech is always changing so don't buy digital until you need it. If your state is digital or you travel elsewhere, the choices are BCD396T (the best, but hard to learn), and the Pro-2096 (mobile/base) and Pro-96. I tried out a 2096 and loved it, but decided to bite the bullet and go for the 396T mainly to get the Close-Call feature. It took some work to learn the 396T, but I'm very happy with it!

I travel from state to state. Would the Pro 97 serve me well or would the Pro 96 do me better? Or would the BCD396T be the best for me?

Ok I see the BCD396T is good but too pricey for me. So what would you recommend if I travel from state to state in the $200.00 dollar range and under.

Radio Shack Pro-2051 may not be handheld but it does have Highway Patrol alert which works in some states

I recently purchased the PRO 97 and I honestly dont like it. Very hard to program. It seems to also have limited range on receiving local police signal. Radio Shack programmed it for me but I think the performance is not worth it. I think I will return it unless a drastic increase in performance happens.
