Default What happens when two people transmit on a cb?????

I was just wondering what happens when two people transmit and try to talk on a cb at the same time? Would you just hear the one thats closest to you are something? I finally learned how to listen to the cb channel, but listening to it, one person would talk and then there would be like another person talkin. So i'm just wondering.

I had plan on getting a cb and stuff, but i'm having major car problems so I need to pay for that before I buy cb stuff. But hopefully I'll soon get a cb radio!

    Default When signals collide

When one or more signals are present on the CB channel, like on channel 19, you generally hear the person that's closer or running a more powerful setup. When signals are of equal or close strength you will hear the signals overlap eachother, which sounds like a steady tone or just a bunch of unintelligable garbage. CB sends signals out with AM or amplitude modulation, which tends to have signals over lap and mix together more then FM, which is used for most ham radio communications on VHF and UHF. Usually when using FM the strongest signal takes over your reception. Nicer "export" cb's have an FM mode you could use for quieter, nicer sounding reception. Of course the person you're trying to talk to must also have FM mode on their rig to use it.
