Which CB Channel?
Hi,
When I was a kid, I seem to remembert that we'd tune into one channel going on Noth or South, and a different channel when we'd go East or West. Is this still the case? Am I remembering it correctly?
What channel do truckers use to communicate LEO activity? I'd be in and around I-5 in the Pacific Northwest. What I'd like to do is tune my scanner to the primary channel used and monitor it that way.
Thanks.

Ch 19 on any CB Radio and NOT scanner... any good (as in not broken) CB Radio will do the job BUT you need a very good CB antenna as well, I strongly recommend Wilson 1000/5000...

Any reason I couldn't tune my scanner to CB channel 19 and listen?
Are you saying that I wouldn't necessarily get good range with my scanner?
I use the Autocom communication system on my motorcycle and it doesn't do real well with CB's.

I personally responded to the TITLE of your post, "Which CB Channel?" and ch 19 is FOR CB radios... not having a scanner I cannot confirm that a scanner is not the proper tool to listen to the truckers channel (19) but if that was possible (use of your police scanner to monitor ch 19) why lots of hwy/DOT troopers have their cruisers (4-wheelers, vans, p/u trucks) equipped with long CB antennas (and logically a CB Radio inside) when ALL have scanners inside?
The best tool for listening to all truckers' messages is a CB Radio (ch 19) with a very powerful antenna, a scanner ain't do the job (as in very good performance/range) properly...

Ok, that makes sense.
Thanks.
The scanner is not just a "police scanner". Most LEO's couldn't afford a scanner like this one. LOL
The one I have monitors all emergency bands, trunking, digital (where not encoded), Amature radio bands, CB, GMRS, air traffic, military etc.
But your point is well taken. I'm sure a big antenna would be more suited. But I have to make certain compromises as this will be used partly on my motorcycle.

Apparently the BCD996T (with GPS capability) and BCD396T (no GPS capability but a handheld scanner) are the only scanners that do the things you have specified before, no idea which scanner you're using right now...

CB channel 19 is 27.185 MHz AM, at least in the U.S. The trouble is that you're probably not going to get the alerts when you need them if you're not talking too. Thus, a CB transceiver is far more useful than a scanner for getting (and sharing!) timely highway information. Truckers may also use a SSB channel for bear alerts, but I'm not yet sure which one(s). SSB generally has longer range. I'm looking into replacing my ancient bare-bones CB with one that has SSB, just so I can plan farther ahead.
Fixed Limit Speed Enforcement is NOT "Revenue Generation". To the contrary, it is legalized Highway Robbery. Moreover, it undermines the interests of public safety for at least three reasons: 1) by diverting scrutiny from dangerous behaviors; 2) by eroding confidence in law enforcement; and 3) by oiling the gears of corruption.

Canada and US share the very same RD, CB, Scanner frequencies... also the NTSC TV system and the 110 voltage
And 100 km/h=60 mph... and 1 gal=3.8 litres...
