With the 9500ix, leave it in highway mode all the time. You'll get better k band sensitivity and won't be bothered with falses after they've been locked out. In most of my encounters, I need more...

A multimeter is 12 bucks at Walmart. You should test first to save yourself the frustration. Also make sure no fuses are blown.
