Is there a list out there that summarizes the various frequencies used by the different radar units?
I'm wondering if you could use tech mode on a Bel Sti to differentiate between different models...
Yes, if your scanner supports control channel only and you have entered a bandplan for the system then you're all set.
It really depends on where you live and where you travel.
Pick the sites and talkgroups close to you and scan those.
Push the FUNC button on the side, press the knob on the top once and rotate to the desired squelch setting. You can adjust it from 0-15.
The BC396T is a good little scanner if you need P25...
I googled P25 and New Zealand and came up with a pile of hits.
The most relevant seems to be this:
APCO P25 - Home - New Zealand E-government Programme
It's from 2007 and suggests the New...
You should be able to get a decent reading with doors open and somebody standing nearby (although exposing them to a decent dose of rf).
Make sure you calibrate properly. Usually you turn the...
I'm not sure why you're asking in a thread and a forum that has nothing to do with your question?
These things generally put out about 500mW so 3 miles is a bit much. I generally find about a mile is the limit.
About as serious a fail as somebody who relies solely on a radar detector as a...
Same frequencies:
410.8625 VR01
411.3125 VR02
411.5125 VR03
VR01 is the preferred VR since the officer doesn't have to go into the trunk to change VR channels.
Not quite. The VR receives the signal from the handheld and uses the mobile radio in the cruiser to broadcast to the tower. It also takes the received signal from the mobile radio and rebroadcasts...
Not true.
The vehicular repeater that the OPP use can be toggled on and off by the officer. If a unit is working traffic and is getting in and out of the vehicle alot, then they tend to leave it...
Scanners can give you a general idea of what's happening and have come in very handy.
I disagree that they are almost useless but I wouldn't rely on one as my main defence against tickets.
Many...
If you've got a newer scanner that does control channel only, you only need to program in the control channels.
Typically most digital encryption is DES-OFB however that's slowly changing as the price of AES becomes cheaper.
Motorola even offers software encryption (ADP) which doesn't require any extra...
You've got to get out of that mindset. There's no such thing as analog and digital frequencies.
A frequency can be analog, digital or both.
You need to tell the store that you want an antenna...
Actually there's some of us that do however we don't tend to check the Scanner/CB forum that often.
I think it's already been explained to you but APCO25 (aka P25, digital) can be used on any...
Yes, it can be done with one scanner however you stop decoding the control channel when you switch to the voice channel. Same as a regular scanner decoding an EDACS system without ESK.
While the...
Nope, AES is available for purchase by anybody (as long as you reside in the right country).
There are currently two Motorola XTS2500 radios on Ebay right now with AES encryption.
It's mainly...
It's kind of like rekeying but it's specific to ESK and very hard to do.
Etrunker already does it.
One scanner monitors the control channel, Etrunker decodes the data and sends the...
Yes, ESK is trivial to break and it's already been done.
Keep in mind that ESK was done to prevent unauthorized radios from transmitting on the system. Getting that ESK into the appropriate...
Most agencies that have implemented AES have their keyloaders under strict lock and key. Social engineering is a little harder since only a couple of people know the actual key. Once one keyloader...
Provoice is just digital modulation. Any Provoice capable radio should be able to listen in.
However, Florida is using ESK on the control channel and digitally encrypted Provoice on their system....
Yup, already broken. Looks for a program called etrunker which listens to the control channel and displays activity on the system. They tossed an ESK option into it a couple of years ago. Try this...
Motorola is now offering ADP encryption. I believe it's 40 bit encryption but no extra hardware is needed in the end units and the keys can be loaded through software. It's quite cheap and a lot of...
