like he said, rf gain affects reception, but he is incorrect about the legality of a peak and tune... typically a peak and tune just allows the maximum power on your radio, which is within the legal...

since you already have a base i would just buy that whip... youre gonna have a lot more range with the antenna and your basic cb than with that little hand-held one and the antenna that comes along...
