If memory serves, this unit is about 25 years old, probably from the early 90's. Good unit back in its day, but far behind in performance of todays modern detectors.
^^what he said.
Just because the cop has a radar gun doesn't mean that its always transmitting.
Stationary? as opposed to moving radar....
I've been a V1 "zombie" for years, but also found that my V1 was way too "chatty" on K band. Problem is, with my older .863 the cost to upgrade is $289, so its basically like buying a new detector....
I'm in the exact same boat as you. I also have an .863 that sits and collects dust because its just too "chatty" on k band when driving.
Also, the $289 "upgrade" is basically buying a new detector....
The are no pop K band radar guns in Ontario. The K band that you encounter from the OPP are Decatur Genesis units--not capable of transmitting 16ms POP. Now to answer your questions, the Magnum...
Welcome to the forum!
The STi Mag is an excellent detector and a good choice for those provinces east of SK where you cant "officially" use your detector.
And, its made in Canada too! (Mississauga,...

Now to get back on track....
There is a common misconception that police lidar shoots a pencil-thin beam like laser pointer. In fact, you'd be surprised to learn that many lidar guns throw a beam...
You never know who it is until you catch em. We had stuff go missing from cars in our neighborhood for months (stupid folks not locking their car doors). My next door neighbor ended up catching the...

Fire, Hessen, Nine--names I haven't seen in a long time. That goes for RW too.
As mentioned before, Chris (RW) is actually a really nice guy--just totally really-super-uber-extremely passionate...

There is a wealth of info on this board, including alot of info for running detectors in banned areas such as Ontario.
Simply put, many police juridictions in your area run a device...

The X50 is a decent all-round radar detector. It has been a favorite of many for years, it has good solid detection, a nice linear ramp-up and the visor clip/hardwire mount sounds like a good...
Metro Toronto uses Ultralyte and a few older Laser Atlanta lasers. OPP uses mostly Laser Atlanta, though they have a selection of older Ultralytes as well.
Jammers do not need to be customized for...
Turn your Ku detection off. There are no Ku radar guns on the International Association of Chiefs of Police "approved" list.

No, the Escort DSP is not the best performing X/K detector ever made. It was for its time, but it got surpassed in tests when the V1 was launched. It also lags behind the Redline.
The DSP as...
Everything old is new again.. :)
Escort DSP was released in 1989, basically a passport put in new box with a Motorola chip set.
Granted, it was (and remains till this day) the best performing ...
