  1. Re: XTR 695 Hardwire Problem - Settings Resets

Thanks guys. Looks like I need to get in the habit of turning that puppy off. Thought it was odd since there wasn't a problem with the 8500x50, but it sounds like that is just something unique to...
  2. XTR 695 Hardwire Problem - Settings Resets

I have an XTR 695 hardwired to the rear view mirror. I am having problems with it resetting at times when I turn the car on. Has anyone else seen this?

I have a 8500x50 and have never had any...
  3. Re: Anyone Compared The XTR695 to the Passport 8500 x50?

No, not at all. I think the 695 is fine for its price point and for anyone that has that for their budget it would be a solid choice. Likewise, at $300, I think the 8500x50 is solid if that is...
  4. Re: Anyone Compared The XTR695 to the Passport 8500 x50?

Thought about the Pro 78 but wanted to go ahead and get the latest.

On the 8500x50, I don't think the scrolling dot is cosmetic. For it to run, the cpu of the RD has to be running much like you...
  5. Re: Anyone Compared The XTR695 to the Passport 8500 x50?

Spent some time today with the XTR695 and here is what I noticed.

The voice alert deal does not seem to be like a huge deal. What I observed it that you got a beep alert before the voice kicked...

Re: sti extention cord? phone cord work?

You can do a direct wire in 30 minutes or less. The part that took the longest for me was to source the switched power. While the phone cord may work, might be worth going ahead and direct wire...

Are you trying to avoid doing a direct wire?
  8. Re: Anyone Compared The XTR695 to the Passport 8500 x50?

I picked up on that info from this thread.
    http://www.radardetector.net/forums/whistler/37946-my-xtr-695-has-arrived-initial-musings.htm

Wouldn't think the 690 would be any different.

Anyone Tried to Build a HUD?

Just curious. I have seen several posts with hidden/stealth locations for remote displays. But, has anyone tried to fabricate a Heads Up Display for their RD? It would seem that it would be the...
  11. Re: Anyone Compared The XTR695 to the Passport 8500 x50?

You may want to turn that off. Some other users reported that they did some testing and that slowed the RD performance. It makes sense in that the RD has to play a sound file rather than just beep....
  12. Re: Anyone Compared The XTR695 to the Passport 8500 x50?

Having now laid hands on the 695, here are a couple of initial observations sans performance.

    Display
695 color option is neat, but I can see how it would be hard to see in bright conditions....

    Re: Ka ramp-up question

Interesting encounter today. I ran across a CO Ka on 34.7 that gave a full alert at least 1000 ft away and probably more. The topography was hill / valley / hill (not a huge variation, maybe 250 ft...

    Re: Smart Cord Help

I used the Smartcord but mounted the box to the left of the steering wheel and down. So the light is not bothersome. It turned out quite nice. The way they built the dash made it so there are no...

    Re: Smart Cord Help

Did the hardwire install last night for the 8500x50. Easy breezy is the best way to describe it. The hardest part was to source a switched power line since there was no fuse box in the cabin. My...
  16. Anyone Compared The XTR695 to the Passport 8500 x50?

Has anyone compared these two? I have the 8500 x50 and will get the XTR695 today for our second car. I am looking forward to see how the two compare, but I wondered if anyone else has looked at how...

Re: Custom Mount for any detector FYI

Excellent. Thanks for the details. I've got an idea on how to modify the mount to make the screw problem less of an issue when adjusting. What I am going to try is to take two pieces of aluminum,...

    Re: Smart Cord Help

Your in business then. I saw the Beltronics version of the Smartcord hardware at the Irving Fry's on Saturday for $19.99. If you don't mind the hard ware saying Beltronics instead of Passport, you...

    Re: Smart Cord Help

Yes to both. Haven't done it yet, but it can't be that difficult based on what I have seen or any harder than wiring a car stereo.

    Re: Smart Cord Help

True. Sorry. I am about to do a hard wire install, so that is what I have on the brain.

I have the coiled Smartcord and think it is kind of useless for me as the lighter plug is not easily...

    Re: Smart Cord Help

The cords do basically the same thing. It all depends on how you want your install to be.

    Wire hidden = Smartcord
    Wire hanging = Regular cord

Yes, the Smartcord has extra contols/function,...

    Re: Smart Cord Help

    Couple of ideas:

    1) You may be able to go Home Depot or Lowes and get a new rj end and tool to replace the broken connector. I haven't done it, but in theory it should work.

    2) If you have a...

Chadj - What did you use for the plate? How did you run the screws through it? Threaded holes or nuts on the ends? Looks like you have a good approach, and I would like to do something similar.

You are right on about FM2222. That is the most fun road in TX that I have found to drive.
