Yes, the V1 runs hot. In like to point a duct from the dash towards the detector with the A/C on to keep it cool.

So Auto/Highway mode on the Redline affects more than just X band, it will reduce K band sensitivity as well?

Just picked up a Redline last Tuesday and so far the V1 still does slightly better on K band, but 35.5 the Redline is amazing. I'm really impressed.
