Default Blinder Install on C5 (2004) Audi A6

Some wanted to see some pictures of the install of the Blinder M25 J17 I have on my C5 (2004) Audi A6 S-Line. Placement is not ideal I admit. But I spoke with the installer and he said that he could not do a main grill install by the headlights because the main grill goes up with the hood. So an epoxy would be the only option for getting the heads mounted in the main grill by the headlights without blocking any road view. The horizontal parts of the main grill are angled downward so there was, in his opinion, not enough flat area to apply the epoxy and guarantee it would stick under all possible conditions. Could not cut the main grill and screw mount the heads behind the opening due to blockage of laser coming in at an angle. So he went with a lower grill install. I think it worked out well, the heads fit perfectly in the lower grill. Distance from the headlights is more than 18 inches but the car is black with little chrome so I am not too worried about it. Let me know what you guys think, should I be asking for my money back due to placement? Have to use links, imbedding photos won't work. The first picture is with a flash, so you can see all the main reflective points. I have Laser Veil on the fog lights and main grill. I have to re-apply to the lower grill because it came off rather quickly (applied 4 months ago, main grill veil is sticking fine). I can't apply the laser veil to the main headlights because the A6 sprays the headlights with washer fluid when I spray the windshield. As a resut the Veil peels fast. Once my northern city is garaunteed to not get any more snowfall, I will re-apply the veil to the main headlights.

Its on the fog lights. But road dust/snow/salt has affected its finish a bit (applied 4 months ago). It was on the lower grill chrome but road dust took it off real quick. I had a great finish on the headlights, applied Veil and let sit for 3 days in a heated underground garage and it was fine for a week but then I used my washer fluid...veil looked like S&%T after that and started to peel. So in about 2 weeks maybe I will re-apply to the headlights. But the Veil is for sure a no-go during the winter. Washer fluid strips it off like paint thinner. I think its a great safety feature to have the headlights sprayed along with the windshield and I will just have to deal without the Veil during winter when I spray washer fluid pretty much every day.

Looks nice. I too worry about those headlights though. I think you would have been a LOT better off with the heads mounted in the upper grille instead of the lower. Hard to tell from the photos what all the concerns are that might prevent that, but I certainly would have exhausted every possible option -- no matter how difficult -- before going to the lower grille.

I think I should be protected enough. I may get punchthrough at close distances but before that I should have plenty of time to slow down. I'll keep Veil on what I can and I always drive with my HIDs on so that should help too. I'm very glad I went with the Black S-Line and not the silver one!

I'm predicting 600 foot minimum punchthrough. I wouldn't call that "enough" or "close" by any means.

Move the heads up if possible....I really am afraid of serious P/T that far from headlights...

Yeah, if you were running a front LP, you *might* get a few seconds warning. But in a no-front LP state, they go right for your headlights, so you're dead.

Well, I will be driving on the weekend on a highway with lots of lidar traps so I guess I will find out. The heads are attached with an epoxy of some sort. Don't think I can move them. If need be I will purchase additional heads perhaps.

I will say that I have encountered lidar traps before in this car before I had veil or the blinder. I always drive with my HIDs on. I have had a V1 for a while so I know when and for how long I am getting targeted. I have never gotten a ticket from a lidar trap and with no laser countermeasures they always target me for 5 to 10 seconds. Twice when I have been speeding. No ticket. So the laser profile of the car is pretty low, the only thing they can really get a reflection on is the headlights and I have seen some people say that HIDs are pretty effective at reducing the read a laser can get. I guess I will see. I will hold off on doing 40 over until I know how it works

Wish I could but I don't think I can. I may get additional heads if thats what it takes. But, I was curious as to your thoughts Blinder-Guy on a youtube video. It has a guy doing testing of his Duel LPP install on his Audi A8. His heads are placed in the same location as mine and he got JTG on every run against an LTI gun. In the 2008 GOL test, the Blinder J15 scored a very close 3rd place to the 2nd place LPP. Both jammed an LTI gun on a headlight shot. The old J15 blinder beat the LPP when the stalker and laser atlanta guns were used. So, if this guy had such good results with his LPP placement on his Audi, should I not see similar results with the new rev J17 blinder installed the same way? Video below.

Thanks for yours, and everyone else's, opinions.
