Default Custom Plate Light with blinder heads

after installing my blinder heads and having to remove the plate lights I had to do something that would replace them. First I tried some small led lights but there were not bright enough to not draw attention, so I deiced to build my own. Three leds and a resistor later I have a new plate light and I have enough components to build another one if need be. I also potted it in silicone so no moisture can affect the LED's.

    check it out.

    Lights off:

Wow, very creative! And knowing you, I know you took pics as you were building it. Can you post them?

I don't need one. I'm just fascinated by the ingenuity of your projects and love seeing how it's done. If you do for some reason make another though, it would be great to see some pics!

Looks pretty good, Looks like that's "Constructed and Mounted" to "emit a white light that illuminates the plate and is (most likely) visible from 50 feet" eh Stealth? Then again it's not factory, is this SAE J587 compliant? And since you Constructed and Mounted it yourself, there might be possible violations, I mean it's modified from the factory standards and all

J/k, very nice work and I don't think it will draw much suspicion.

Tons of people drive with burnt out lights so I don't think there will be a problem.

Also guys don't start arguing about it again ok, one of my threads got closed becasue of it. If you want to argue do it though PM or start one of your own threads, OK?

    +1.

I think it'll be fine, too.

Given how many in the snow-belt ride around with busted plate lights and/or plate covers that are so weathered that they obscure the plate in all but direct daylight, I think his local enforcers will be more than happy that the plate is well-lit enough for them to read.

    Nice install.
You can mod things from the factory with no legal problems.
I turned the factory turn signals in to sequential turn signals (home made) on my car.

Cool... it looks like a sawed-off RadioShack project box.

What type/brightness LEDs did you use? You said you used 3 of them, are they aimed a certain way to illuminate the entire plate?

Now you need to add some high-intensity IR LEDs to it to blind ticket cameras.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

it is a sawed off radio shack box
    Project Enclosure (3x2x1") - RadioShack.com

5mm white led 7000mcd 30 degree viewing angle
    5mm High-Brightness White LED (2-Pack) - RadioShack.com

Yes they are aimed a certain way, the center one is straight down, and the side ones are at 45 degree angels. They are all soldered in series onto a universal pcb project strip board with a 180ohm resistor on the negative side.

What ticket cameras, we don't have those here so nothing to worry about
