This past weekend I completed the installation of the M47's (2 Front/2 Rear) on my 05 Sonata. I took Stealth Stalker's and Category 4's advice and installed into the grille for optimum location. (My original plans were to install the heads below the bumper.) The complete installation took several hours to complete but I took my time to make sure it looked decent.
I used a Dremel tool to cut out the front grille for the 2 front units. Both heads are level in the grill. This was my first time using the Dremel tool. The Dremel tool really makes it a lot easier to make precision cuts and a clean install.
I made 2 brackets for the rear mounts using pipe straps cut to size and bent to fit the heads. Worked perfectly! I mounted the heads to each side of the plate as close to the tail lights as possible and they were leveled out and tightened.
As for the rest of the install I used the Cheetah Wireless Kit for M47 and installed the rest of the electronics in the engine compartment. Attach the wires to the battery posts and hooked up the CPU unit to the Cheetah kit. Cheetah gives you a plastic box to keep the M47 CPU in and help keep moisture out of the electronics. I installed the Cheetah Audionode inside my car and use the key transmitter to control the M47's. I had use my laptop to modify the M47 software according to Cheetah's instructions but overall the Cheetah kit makes it really easy to install and worth the extra money.
I just want to thank Stealth Stalker and Category4 for their advice on placement. Stealth Stalker may be direct on his advice but he is looking out for everyone on these forums. There is no room for error when dealing with laser technology. It pretty much came down to grille cutting time or be ready to pay the fine.
My next step is to find someone in the Atlanta, Ga. area that can help in testing out my install before I apply my Veil G4. If anyone knows of anyone who has the equipment and time, please let me know or e-mail me. Thanks!
