Default LI DH and V1 in 2009 Audi S5

Don't mind the dirty car. Click on the Laser Interceptor install album.

I didn't install a external speaker yet, I thought I'd mount it and see how loud the LI speaker voice prompts are and its not quite loud enough for where I installed it. I also could not find where to tap into my radio for muting the radio thru the LI, which would be a little better but my car has a ton of electronics and even though I have the wiring diagram I cannot find the correct wire.

A comment about the Valentine One & LI install. I noticed that when I get a alert from my V1, and you mute the V1 the LI does not mute it just keeps on yelling at you. It would be nice if the mute button from the V1 would mute the Laser Interceptor Valentine One voice prompts. If this is possible let me know.

    Enjoy!

    Outstanding work!

Hard to tell from the angular grille pic, but I'm assuming you're sure your heads are squared to the front?

Yes the heads were hard to get straight since the grille does angle off. What I did was pick a part of the grille on the inside of the sensors and match them up and did the same for the outside of the sensors.

From above looking straight down at them they appear to be pretty straight. I'm gonna keep checking them to make sure they are straight and level.

Now I need to find a quick easy way to test the LI sensors. Right now I don't even know if they're working.

That looks GREAT! I have to get off my butt and finish my install on my S4. Right now I have the LI cables running through the door jamb and the switches installed in a temporary switch box. A couple of questions for you now:

    - How did you get the cables through the clutch pedal grommet? I couldn't get the wire puller to go through the other side. Did you remove the washer reservoir?

    - Did you end up buying a red lighted switch or use the LI's std switch?

    - What size drill did you use to drill the holes? i don't want to screw up drilling through the dash (but didn't mind a $3.95 switch box).

    - Where did you mount the CPU?

Thanks. Oh, and an easy quick test is to use an IR remote and cell phone camera. I used my Time Warner cable box remote and my iPhone. I got the 'Unknown Gun' warning from the remote and a flashing response in my iPhone camera.

    Thanks, and GREAT install job.

    1) I took a longer knife, kind of like a fish paring knife. I cut a + sign and it needed to be pretty good size to fit the RJ11 thru. I actually put each sensor thru one at a time and put electrical tape over the RJ11 heads first to help protect them even more and then taped them to a wire fish tool. I used Gorilla tape to tape it to the wire fish tool. You could probably use a wire hanger but you will need an extra set of hands for this. One person pushing the wire tool thru the grommet and another near the firewall dictating and using some kind of a tool to grab and help aid it upward. I did remove the washer fluid reservoir which helped the routing of the sensor wires up behind the Audi CPU and down into the clutch hole.

    2) I didn't end up buying/using a red LED for the power switch. I did buy one but it wasn't electrically the same. The one that comes with the LI doesn't look that bad and isn't as bright as I originally thought it would be. It's very subtle and doesn't look out of place with the all red Audi lighting.

    3) I'm not sure exactly what size the hole was because I used a step drill bit that removes little by little until you get to the right size. I didn't want to mess up either and drilling just a tad to much could ruin the whole setup. If you mount your switches where I did [it's actually a great place] I would move the bottom one up just a tad closer to the top one. Where I mounted the bottom one there is a metal brace and it slightly touches the brace, so I had to turn the switch so that the connectors are upward but I wanted them down so it matched the top switch. It's very minor but for the perfect install this is recommended.

    4) I originally was going to mount the CPU on the bottom of the knee bolster but couldn't really find a clean install point. After looking around and finally testing the CPU in the place I installed it I mounted it up under the knee bolster kind of above the brake pedal on my Tiptronic. If you get on your back and look up underneath you'll see a silver metal bracket. I used some very wide heavy duty velcro to mount it horizontally with the speaker facing towards the center of the car. If you look up in there you'll see exactly what I'm talking about because it the LI CPU fits perfectly and it's exactly the same width as the CPU. You will note that mounting it there will require a external speaker or find where you can wire up the radio mute from the LI to the factory mute wire. I'm looking for this right now and need some assistance with it and will eventually find it but right now I'm not having any luck. I have the wiring diagram and even called the dealer and Audi Of America with no luck. I'm going to find a custom stereo installer that might be able to help tomorrow. I think if you had the radio mute hooked up you'd be find with the loudness of the voice prompts but and external [as it's connected now] would definitely help out. Luckily I have my LI connected to my V1 and when I get a laser alert it will alarm me also.

I am working to eventually tap into the telephone system and use the factory B&O dash mounted speaker to use as voice prompts. I've got all of the right directions to do this but it requires cutting a splicing some factory wiring. It uses 2 double relays that need to be connected in order to not fry anything within the car or the LI CPU.

    5) I'll try some remote controls to see if I can get some response.
