Default I need advice asap! i'm leaving soon for VA!

So I know i'll only be on U.S. 23 on the west side of virginia. Would it be safe to use the x50, and if I did get caught they wouldnt confiscate it would they? I'm afraid of loosing it ops: When I get an alert, i'm going to unplug it. How about that spectre?

they won't confiscate it but you will get a $90 ticket i think? VA residents please correct me if i'm mistaken, but otherwise you should be fine

Agreed... you're much better off risking an RD ticket in VA than a speeding ticket. An STi would prevent possible hassles and a ticket though.

Thanks guys! I dont have an STi though, and my next detector will definately 100% be a Valentine 1. I was just wondering, I'll only be in Va about 1 hour 15 minutes so maybe not enough time to even see a LEO . Should I stick with my unplug when I get an alert? Or let it sing all it wants? 8)

You might be lucky and not see anything, but turning your RD off when you see a cruiser or get an alert might prevent an unneeded stop during your trip. But then I don't think Spectres are all that widespread in VA yet, so even if you encounter a cop, chances are he won't have a Spectre anyway.

I guess it all boils down to, is it worth $90 + 20 minutes of your time at the side of the road vs. flipping off the RD on a moment's notice?

You're going to mount it where it won't be easily seen outside the car, right?

Oh yes I have a setup in my car for it, You cant even see it if your looking directly in the front of my window. I'm taking a friends car though, and well riding with them. It's an expedition so i'm curious to see how i'm going to do it, any suggestions? I have a few ideas in mind in which I wont say on here considering that you never know when a virginia leo might be watching my post . If you have any good "quick" suggestions then let me know on a PM anyone if you would'nt mind.

Justin, you should be fine running your X50 in VA. Get an alert, unplug it and then plug it back in once you feel safe.

Even with a good spot that's virtually invisible from outside the vehicle, I'd still run your detector on the lowest dimming at night, and rely on the audible alerts - unplugging when you receive a true hit.

Just be sure that your cord isn't routed so that it's easy spotted, and also be sure that the SmartCord's alert and pilot lights aren't glaringly obvious, either.

Finally, be sure that if you do make the move to unplug - assuming that you don't have a kill-switch - that you don't make the move too obviously (i.e. bending over half-way), as that could itself escalate the encounter, with the officer now thinking that you have something to hide inside the vehicle (that's likely much less innocent than just a radar detector).

Unless they are in the tint band across the top of the windshield. You can't see them up there.
