PM tactical22 AFAIK he's tested the spectre first hand.

He'd be able to tell you ranges etc on the spectres!

I'd be inclined to get the STI or 9500ci if I were you and hardwire it high and maybe add a visor bag to hide it.

I hear its 9 points and a 4 figure fine if your caught with an RD in Oz.........harsh

There are only three radar detectors which are immune to Spectre detection:

    Beltronics STi Driver
Beltronics STi-R (remote version of STi Driver)
    Escort Passport 9500ci

Radar detectors which I use: 9500ci and STi. Check out my Vintage Radar Detector collection. Quotes from forum members:

Sounds good, but buying second hand STI's at Amazon, nobody can predict their conditions. Also, it is not buying at shop, have no idea how I'll pay for this
If you really have any guys selling stis, let me know in private message
    PM sent

    Best regards, Alex

I was thinking that you could get a freind over here in the U.S to buy what you want and ship it to you.
It would be a U.S. model. I dont know if they use different than X,K, Ka over there.

No X-band used, only K,Ka, Laser (Ka is not superwide band either - only 34.1 - 35.1GHz)

I can buy any radars, but from my point of view 1000AUD on hi-end RD not reasonable for several things: 1) I don't drive on highways often 2) I'm not a street racer 3) previously I was using Cobra untill my car was hacked and it was stolen. 200$-Cobra worked not too bad at that time.

I've used mph insted of km/h just for common American standard (i thought in this forum were 99.9% Americans ).

Recently I found in yahoo that the fine for radar here in Victoria was up to 2000AUD, and that made me sad Looking at the tests (Radar Roy's guide, Delonix web page) you can see the following: spectre can detect Whistler PRO 78 C only from very close distances 30-40m (100-150feet). It is pretty good, as from my point of view, we can visually observe police car at much longer distances, that is enough to switch Whistler off. What do you think?
yes you are right however i was just letting you know that in Australia that's where you say you are going right? its kph just so you know in case you didnt no

sometimes on TradeMe ? New Zealand online auctions and classifieds. Browse, buy and sell online on trademe.co.nz they sell second hand beltronics sti windscreen model for 800 dollars but will only ship to nz or Au. no i wouldn't risk it i don't think thats enough time because what if they are in an Unmarked car you cant always see them untill your up close. and the fines are really risky and lets face it who likes being pulled over have your radar detector taken off you then given a fine maybe even Demerit poins on your licence. in the Holidays they give out Double points so one offence and thats harf maybe all your licence GONE just like that. if your going to break the law addlest do it right and dont get snaped

Ok, there really isnt any other option other than a STi in oz, the 9500Ci is too expensive and the Pro 78 is still going to get you pinned hard...especially if the HWP is not running any form of radar...infact, I have first hand witnessed SPectre in unmarked NON HWP cars...

Also NSW, VICPOL and QPS have ordered and had delivered a heap of new Spectre 4 so your going to be toast....see my videos on youtube with spectre...some of the escorts are nearly 1km away when they are detected with Spectre.

Go to www.dontgetcaught.com.au and he will sort you out on a STi....

Good luck but be warned, if you use anything else other than a STi you WILL get busted..and busted HARD! Just remember.. "almost undetectable" really means $1170 fine and 9 points in the real world!
