Thank you guys for response! sorry, I had a hard day)
well, I know exactly - my speed on highway usually is about 120-140km/h, and only where the conditions are perfect and no cars - i try to drive 140-150. It is not reaaly high as the roads are perfect in Victoria and not too much cars in rural areas. Sometimes I can drive 30-40min before I see a car in front of me. That's a fantastic chance for a small overspeeding)
Actually, I have to say, in all other situations, I'm extremely careful (see my insurance rating )
STALCAR - your comment "no SPECTREs in Victoria" seems like a provocation I will check this out BTW - what another method you use to find working RD?
MEM-TEK - just in the bottom of the screen, I found a section "similar topics" - there are actually 5 of them. In pretty old thred (now closed), there was a comment of one guy about some more advanced devices than SPECTRE, but not used because of their price. Who knows where they are using now
20-30 mph over the PSL is pretty extreme in my opinion. Vehicles going that fast stick out like a beacon. Would probably result in a big fine if not jail in some places. I agree with other posts here regarding Spectre and radar - if they are using Spectre, they are not likely to use their radar at the same time. Many different RD will detect Radar at "maximum" range. Problem with that is there are lots of other factors involved: such as they may not have their radar on, terrain may be and issue, man made features can interfere with radar, probably some types of electronic interference. I have had relatively inexpensive RD pick up radar a long way off where an expensive RD did not - and I have had the opposite happen too. It would ge great if there was a radar detector detector detector but as far as I know there is not.
What is the difference in the fine for having a RD compared to a speeding ticket where you are? Do they confiscate your RD? I presume that you would not only get a ticket for speeding, but a ticket for your RD as well - and maybe lose the RD too.
For me, if I know RD were illegal in an area, I would not use one there - and drive the PSL or lower.
Just my opinion.
In my state, the fine for radar could be very high + points to the licence. For many reasons, RD for me is more for a safe drive, than a tool for ugly overspeed. In Germany, where I had some test drives, I saw unbelivable performance: road polizai guys promoted RDs on billboards and involved some local sponsors to make gifts-cheap RD to drivers. It is true! If we have here any guys from there, they could proof. Why I wrote about that? because riding with no Rd makes my ride uncomfortable I I cannot understand why RD is so strongly restricted in Victoria
I'm thinking to buy RD in Australia in the state where RD's are controlled by Spectre.
Well, I need RD for highway trips, as usually my speed is 20-30mph higher than speed limit. That is not too much, but it is enough to get a ticket
So, because of Spectre control, I was thinking to buy a RD that can catch police speed radars at as maximum range as possible, and then I will turn my RD off to prevent presice identification of my RD by Spectre devices. What do you think about this method?
What not very expensive RD can suit my goal for catching police radars at maximum range (unfortunately, I cannot afford such hi-ends as V1 or Bel STI that priced as much as 1000$AU in Australia)
Thank you guys for answers in advance
man you need to Slow the F$%k down man not to be mean but they will catch you them holden Commodore highway patrol cops are Fast and chipped out i would only do 10 kph over the speed limit and thats where i am from. other then that stick to the speed limit.
Saving money on Stealth is no bargain.
You'll loose your detector(by confiscation) and even more money, in the form of a fine.
This video was taken in Ontario, but the scenario is exactly the same (I can't believe this guy actually posted this)
In Oz, they don't even need to 'detect' your detector to search your car. If your car is radar[ed] twice, and you're going way slower the 2nd time, you'll get pulled over. You'll be told "I suspect you have a Radar Detector. If you surrender it now, you're fine will be $xx.xx; if I search you vehicle and find it, the fine will be $xxxx.xx" [2-5 times the 'surrender' amount] Radar detector backfires on driver
Use a Radar Detector, and be prepare to be challenged on it.
IMHO, Your only consideration is a stealth detector from Belscort. My inclination would be a portable STi. But that's just me. "The Bel STi XR radar detector further advances the Beltronics reputation with it's revolutionary TotalShield Technology. TotalShield is an industry first as it makes the Bel STi XR 100% undetectable to any type of Radar Detector Detector. Not only is it unseen by the current Spectre III RDDs, it will be undetectable by future threats."
There also seems to be maintenance considerations.
"How long with the Bel STi Range remain undetectable?
The good thing about the Bel STi range is that they do not leak any radio frequencies. This means that even if the police release a new radar detector detector the Bel STi range will remain undetectable because there is still no radio frequency leakage to detect! This makes the Bel STi range the best choice for Australian states where radar detector detectors are in use - namely all states besides Western Australia. It is important that you send your detector back to us once every 18 months so it can be tested in our microwave lab and serviced if required to ensure the detector is not emitting any radio frequencies."

They dont chip them anymore...there may be the odd Su but the most are not chipped at all.
Hey Stal...ok thanks for the input...prob the last 2 years ive seen nothing but IO in Vic....id like to se emore CO
That's right, there not chipped or LS1edited or VCMsuited.
No worries Tact, some guys do I/O but some don't,if there is someone who has a RD it's always good to slow them down with the Rd going off,I don't really care if people have them,as sometimes there a false sense of security, some tricks are Radar on and people think they have passed the patrol car, with just down the road, a lidar or camera set up a great way to get the speed hoon!
