Anyone drive around with a Spectre?
I got a false this morning from some guy running a Cobra next to me at a stop light. It got me thinking it would be interesting to run around for a month or so with a Spectre on board and see just how many RDs there are running around.
That said, it seems to me the Spectre will also get tons of falses from a multitude of sources. Radar Detectors are made to do some filtering, but Spectre would need to do the opposite, and you'd be swamped with falses.
Just wondering if anyone on the forum has used a Spectre in the car for a few weeks at least, and get a rough approximation of cars equipped with RDs. (Excluding the M3's, of course).

Re: Anyone drive around with a Spectre?
proudNMAmember has or had a Spectre II?
It seems a crude enough device that I'd love to make one, esp since everybody's issue with them right now is they're so cost prohibitive.3.861

Yes I have a Spectre II. What type of testing do you want done? If it has to do w/ a Cobra, you can pick one of those things up well over 3000ft usually.
It's hard to get an exact # of the people using rd's as the # fluctuates in different areas.

Re: Anyone drive around with a Spectre?
I guess I was looking for a ballpark number of people using RDs. Like 1 in 100, 1 in 1000, etc.
For instance, if you randomly drive on the interstate at noon on a weekday with the Spectre on board, in a metro area, and say, drive a distance of 20 miles. How many 'hits' are there? I know it's not very scientific.
The other curiosity is, how does the Spectre work? For instance, a LEO is using it on the interstate, and it goes off. How does he know who is the culprit? Is it directional at least?
Anyway - not a big deal - just curious.

Re: Anyone drive around with a Spectre?
Depends on the detector, they watch traffic and it'll ramp up when an RD gets within a few hundred ft (last reports I read said the IV+ was good for about 700ft of knowing there's one around you; then they need to look at what's out there and get into traffic a little bit until it pegs and look around to see if they can spot it or someone to make the best stop on. Which if you're hunting trucks in the desert and there's 3 or 4 cars ever minute, leads to some pretty educated guesses, just like running a detector without arrows.

Re: Anyone drive around with a Spectre?
And the VG-2 Interceptor RDD is still a useful tool in finding some of the lower end rd models. As far as the percentage of people using rd's, it just depends on which part of the country and how many rd users are out at that time. I will have to get my Spectre out and do some testing as soon as the weather gets warmer here around the Great Lakes.

Re: Anyone drive around with a Spectre?
I took Ka Guard off the V1 for the last few days, it's certainly doing better in real world RD spotting than it did on the bench with the whistler, but even then I could create steady Ka alerts and adjust the angle of antennas to bring it up to full strength. In standard driving I can get about 100-200ft alert and on the two lane rural roads makes it really easy to pick off which car has got a RD running.
