    Default Car Security Suggestions

Well. After my Dad's truck was stolen yesterday in under 10 minutes from a Home Depot parking lot in Dallas , I have decided to make car security my top priority with my car. I will be adding all of this equipment to my car within the next month or two and was seeing if anybody else had some suggestions on what else to add.

Here is what I have down so far:
    1 - Eyemax DVST-GN-704JLC Mobile DVR Unit
4 - Eyemax MBC-M170 Cameras (One behind Rearview mirror facing out front windshield, one focused on driver door, one focused on passenger door, on focused out back window)
    1- Stealth installed microphone
1- Escort Entourage CIS w/GPS Recovery and Monitoring Service

Possibly a Viper 5902 Responder HD Color SuperCode SST 2-Way Security and Remote Start System w/:
    Audio Glass Break Sensor
    Digital Tilt Motion Sensor
    Backup Battery System
    Backup Battery Siren

And possibly even Lojack on top of everything.

I won't be in the nicest area for school and the thieves know that the people that go to the school have a lot of electronics and valuables and will be in school for long periods of time. I will be at school 6-7 days a week around 8 hours per day with classes at all times of the day. I can have class at 8AM, I can have class at 11PM depending on what classes I have for that period. I do not want to risk anything happening to my car and not end up losing everything.

It only took those guys 10 minutes to steal my dad's truck so I can't risk anything with my car.

Money will not be an object on this, I cannot afford to leave my car at stock security with all of my valuables inside. I will be adding a quad LI system as well as a CB to my car on top of my current system in the next few months so I want it secured as well as I can possibly get it.

Any suggestions on extra security will be greatly appreciated. And to those with camera systems, if you would post what you have so I can compare and decide on what kind of system I need, that will be appreciated as well.

    Thanks in advance.

I would definitely add High security window ballistic Film is possible. I'm in a very crappy neighborhood too and worry about them trying to rip the gps out of the dash.

I would also install steel plates on the back side of the door handles to prevent entry with a screwdriver. A plate would block the shaft.

If you have HID headlights you may want to try looking for a hood lock plate. I've opened hoods from the grill just by using a long screwdriver.

Google: Ravelco The principles behind it make it sound like it makes your car nearly impossible to steal.

The Ravelco Anti Theft Device is installed in an easily accessible place under or flush mounted in the dashboard of your vehicle. A removable 16 pin male plug (which when not in use connects to your key chain) makes all the electronic connections. A hidden armored steel cable protects the wires from the rear of the RAVELCO base on through to the engine compartment where all the connections are made and camouflaged. When the plug is removed from the RAVELCO, it is impossible to start the vehicle. There are more than 100,000 different combinations. NO MASTER PLUGS. An impossible obstacle for even the most persistent thief.

Since your 18, I think you can get a CCW permit out of South Dakota.

What kind of car? Some ECU upgrades (APR for VW Audi) let you disable the ignition system by coding with the turn signal stalk.

And what's the point of this stuff? Do you want whoever steals your car to get a bunch of cool electronic goodies as well? Because if they steal your car, the DVR will be gone, too, and any images it might have recorded will be useless to you.

1- Escort Entourage CIS w/GPS Recovery and Monitoring Service
This is probably the best item on your list. You want something that notifies you directly when something happens so you can run outside with your Glock and handle the situation.

Possibly a Viper 5902 Responder HD Color SuperCode SST 2-Way Security and Remote Start System w/:
    Audio Glass Break Sensor
    Digital Tilt Motion Sensor

Another huge waste of money. The only thing an audible alarm is good for is annoying your neighbors. Think back to the last time you heard a car alarm go off - what was your first thought? Was it "Oh noes! Somebody's car is being stolen! Quick, let me call 911!!" Somehow I doubt that it was. If you called the police at all, it was probably to report an annoying loud noise.

Did you ever see that Patrick Swayze movie Road House? His character is a bouncer who owns this really nice Mercedes sedan, but he leaves it parked in the garage and drives a beater to work because he knows that the scumbags he throws out of these bars are going to retaliate by trashing his car.

Money will not be an object on this
In that case, do what Swayze did and buy yourself an expendable daily driver that nobody wants to steal and has no sign of any valuables inside. Combine that with something like the Entourage which will send you a text message or call you on your cell phone when someone is messing with your car and you're good to go. Leave your nice car at home in the garage; drive it on the weekends and/or only to "safe" places. That's what I do - I have a C6 Corvette, but I drive an old Civic to work. The Corvette stays safe in the garage unless I am going somewhere where I know it won't be messed with.

That's one thing my dad suggested a few weeks ago while we were looking at apartments. Buy myself another car to drive to school and leave my Acura in the garage at the gated complex. I'd prefer to keep this as my last option as I don't want to have to deal with 2 cars while I'm at school. I looked up Florida gun laws and will have one in my car in the car when I'm not at school. The DVR would be bolted down in the car in a hidden place and would be for more just smash and grab situations. If the car is stolen, then it's stolen. I don't expect to get anything back but hopefully would be able to locate it before it is completely stripped.

For a low tech solution just turn the car into a garbage dump. Leave every fast food wrapper on the floor, throw empty containers in the backseat, moldy cupholder, and more more more trash. That way they wouldnt wanna be caught dead in that filth
